    Shocker SB at Oklahoma State

The Shockers play the Cowgirls in Stillwater on Tuesday with a 6pm start time. This is the first of a home-and-home with the return engagement on April 18.

Oklahoma State have a record of 23-8 and were a preseason pick for fourth among the seven schools playing softball in the Big 12, just one vote behind Texas. They are 1-6 against teams who are currently RV or better in the Coaches’ Poll including a loss to Tulsa and Emily Watson.

The Cowgirl offense is led by Vanessa Shippy who has a monster OPS of 1.476 (with a BA of .532) and Madi Sue Montgomery at 1.266. Four others have an OPS topping .900 including Jessi Haffner, a senior and Carroll alumna. She is tied for the team lead in home runs with eight. Shippy has twice been Player of the Week for the Big 12.

The primary starters for Oklahoma State are Emmie Robertson (ERA of 2.12 and WHIP of 1.02) and Samantha Clakley (2.60 and 1.30). Logan Simunek has even better numbers (0.78 and 0.91), but most of her appearances have been in relief.

The record for the Shockers is now 17-12.

Bailey’s ERA is now 2.78 with a WHIP of 1.25. BaileyK in her relief role has improved her numbers to 3.20 and 1.53.

Laurie now has the highest OPS at .989 followed by Paige at .964 and Bailee at .911.

Hopefully, the field will be dry enough to play on by tomorrow eveining. Thunderstorms and Rain likely tonight through mid-day tomorrow.

I'm sure the infield will be covered so hopefully the outfield drains well which I suspect it does.

The temperature tonight at 6:00 pm in Stillwater projected to be 79. Tomorrow night at 6:00 pm 49 although not too much wind.

Bailey Lange has the start for the Shockers and Emmie Robertson for the Cowgirls.

Oklahoma State scores in the first on a walk, stolen base, moving up on a fly out and an infield single.

Each team scores two in the second. Paige leads off the inning with a homer. Ryleigh follows with a double, and Madison singles her home.

The Cowgirls also lead off their inning with a home run. The next batter triples but is thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice on the next batter. An error and a walk load the bases and the next batter does deliver a run on her fielder's choice. Cowgirls lead 3-2 after two.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth, BaileyK is on in relief, Bailey having gone through the order twice.

Asea ties the game with a leadoff homer in the fifth. Asea spent one year in Stillwater before transferring to Wichita State.

BaileyK has a hit batter and a walk in the Oklahoma State fifth but no one scores.

Simunek takes over in the circle for the Cowgirls to start the sixth, Samantha Clakley having pitched innings two, three and four. Laurie is hit with a pitch, Paige follows with a single and an error on Ryleigh's ground ball load the bases. BaileyK scores one with a ground ball and Madison scores another with a sac fly.

Three walks by BaileyK mixed in with two groundouts brings Bailey back to the circle with the bases loaded. She gets the final out of the sixth with another groundout.

Bailey gets a strike out, flyout, flyout to close out Oklahoma State in the seventh.

        Shockers 5-3 Oklahoma State

The Cowgirls are doubtless ranked, but the most recent rankings that should have been released early this afternoon won't load.

Bailey gets her fifth save, a save in a game which she started. BaileyK's record is now 6-1, but she had one of those wild streaks that were so common early in the season.

Paige was the only Shocker with multiple hits. One was a homer with a homer by Asea and a double by Madison being the other extra base hits. Madison had two RBI.

The Shocks faced all three of the pitchers flyingMoose listed in his game preview. With Robertson pitching 2 innings, Clakley 3 innings and Simunek 2 innings. The Shocks had similarly results against all 3. These 3 OSU pitchers had a combined ERA of 1.99 coming into last nights game. The Shocks bumped that up to 2.07.

The Shocker staff has a team ERA of 3.58 at this point.

This was a very nice win for the Ladies.

Nice indeed. The Cowgirls came into the game with an RPI of 30, just in front of the Shocks.

I suspect the pitching management by Oklahoma State (2-3-2 innings) was largely predetermined.
