Shocker SB at Omaha
The Shockers continue their season with a 2pm game on Tuesday in Omaha against Nebraska-Omaha, just Omaha athletically speaking.
The Mavericks are a member of the Summit League where they are a preseason pick for fifth of the six teams. Jessica Nelson is a preseason Player to Watch, while Kelli Pattison has been the Player of the Week for the conference this year. Previous Shocker opponent Western Illinois is a pick for second in this conference.
Omaha are 12-19 so far this year. They opened their season at a tournament hosted by Mississippi State where they lost to the Bulldogs (now ranked, probably RV at the time) and split with Missouri State. This was followed by tournaments hosted by Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Oklahoma State (run-ruled twice by the RV Cowgirls), Hampton and Arkansas (lost twice to the RV Razorbacks and run-ruled by Tulsa). There have been a couple of mid-week games such as this one sprinkled in. They have played a handful of reasonable teams, but not many.
Pattison with an OPS of 1.150 leads the offense with two others above .800. After that, the offense drops off pretty sharply. Two pitchers have the bulk of the innings. Sydney Hampton has an ERA of 3.21 with a WHIP of 1.32, while the numbers for Aubrey Hacke are 4.26 and 1.51.
The record for the Shockers is 16-10. Bailey’s ERA is now 2.62 with a WHIP of 1.18. She has pitched just over half of the innings with no one else pitching more than about 20% of the innings. However, I would expect one of those, probably Caitlin, will get the start in this game.
Paige has the highest OPS at 1.067 followed by Laurie at .902. Bailey, Ryleigh and Bailee are all above .800.
