The Shocks dent the scoreboard in the fifth. Bailee singles, moves to second on a sac bunt by Morgan and scores on an infield error. After Ryleigh singles, the bases are loaded with one out when everyone is safe on a fielder's choice on a ball hit by Laurie. Madison delivers a second run with a sac fly to end the Shocker scoring in the inning.

A one-out error gives SHS a chance, but BaileyL ends the inning with her fifth strikeout.

    Shockers lead 2-0 after five.

With one out in the sixth, Asea doubles and moves to third on an infield hit by Bailee. Bailee then steals second, but the Shockers leave two stranded in scoring position.

Bearkats get a single and stolen base but no runs.

      2-0 after six.

Ryleigh has an infield single to lead off the seventh and Laurie follows with a double. The Bearkats make a pitching change. Caitlin delivers a run with a sac fly.

A leadoff walk in the bottom half is followed by a Kaylee-Ryleigh ground out DP. BaileyL ends the game and gains her shutout with her sixth strikeout.

        Shockers 3-0 Sam Houston State

3-9-1-10 is the line for the Shocks - too many LOB.

Bailee had three hits including a double, and Laurie had two doubles.

BaileyL had two walks and two hits allowed to go with her six strikeouts.

The games tomorrow, especially against Seton Hall, will give us some idea if the secondary pitching is making progress.

Bailey Lange has certainly been the bright spot for the Shocks early on. Bailee Nickerson and Ryleigh Buck about the only Shocks swinging hot sticks so far.

            Shockers v Northern Colorado

            Mackenzie - 3b
            Ryleigh - 1b
            Bailee - cf
            Laurie - ss
            Caitlin - dp
            BaileyL - p
            Asea - rf
            Ashton - c
            Morgan - lf
            Kaylee - 2b (not batting)

Paige was the DP against Washington, but has not appeared since. Ill? Ashton Esparza is catching in place of Madison who is hitting .167 at this point. Pitching the late game one day and the early game the next day will be a test for BaileyL.

The Shockers have a new hitting coach this year who is experienced (head coach at Pitt State for a number of years) and well thought of. Is it taking a bit to integrate some of her concepts? Of course, we have small samples at this point, so it is unwise to draw any conclusions.

This game has an ugly start. Mackenzie singles and advances to third on a bunt single by Ryleigh, probably a sac bunt that the Bears do not play well. Ryleigh steals second and advances to third on a throwing error by the catcher, Mackenzie scoring. An error (Ryleigh scoring), walk and the third error of the inning load the bases. BaileyL scores a run wth a ground out, and Asea's single scores the fourth run of the inning.

Northern Colorado threatens in their half with a walk, error and double steal, but BaileyL ends the threat with a strikeout and come-backer.

              Shocks lead 4-0 after one.

The Shockers get another run in the second: walk to Morgan, double by Mackenzie, sac fly by Bailee.

                5-0 after two.

Another ugly Shocker run. Single by Caitlin, wild pitch, passed ball and muffed throw by the 3B to score her. Bailey continues the inning with a single and stolen base. (I think I will go with Bailey and BaileyK to distinguish the two.) With two outs, Neleigh Herring makes her Shocker debut with a pinch-hit appearance for Morgan and walks, leading to a pitching change for the Bears. Bailey scores on a passed ball to complete the scoring for the Shocks in the third.

UNC gets a walk, infield single and walk to load the bases, but Bailey gets a strikeout and Mackenzie starts a third-to-first DP to end the threat.

                  7-0 after three.

Since when are any Shocker runs ugly? Only opponents runs are ugly. Shocker runs are all flowers and butterflies. ;-)

Mckenzie Weber and Mauriana Jamele pinch hit in the fourth, but no Shockers reach base.

                  Still 7-0 after four.

The Shocks get a runner in scoring position in the fifth when Asea singles and steals second, but cannot push her across.

The Bears get an infield single and two-out double to score.

                    Shockers lead 7-1 after five.

Ryleigh's one-out double leads to nothing in the sixth.

Caitlin is in to start the bottom of the sixth in the circle, and Madison is now catching.

What we have come to expect (fear?) from Caitlin: hit batter, ground out, ground out, walk, walk, line out. No runs, but no walk in the park either.

                      7-1 after six.

Bethany is another pinch-hitter in the Shocker seventh, but no one reaches base.

Three-up, three-down for Caitlin in the seventh.

                        Shockers 7-1 Northern Colorado

Mackenzie and Ryleigh each had two hits, each including a double.

Bailey gets the win, going five innings. She gave up four hits and three walks, striking out seven. Her record is now 3-1.

A walk and a homer by Walkden give SHU a 2-0 lead.

Mackenzie leads off the Shocker half with an infield single, but Ryleigh grounds into a DP.

                            Shocks trail 2-0 after one.

A single and double to start the second for the Pirates brings on Caitlin in relief. A single scores the lone run of their inning.

                              Asea doubles, but is stranded.

                              SHU leads 3-0 after two.
