  • MVC 25-Year Women's Sports Anniversary Teams

The 2017-18 season is a landmark one for the Missouri Valley Conference and for women’s sports. To the 25th anniversary of women’s sports, the Valley is naming 25-Year Anniversary Teams for each of the Valley’s sponsored women’s sports.

    MVC Women's Volleyball 25-Year Team

Shocker Abbie Lehman is the only Shocker on the final 10-member team.

Would like to have seen the list of all 47 nominees and the 25 finalist. Very tough to pick the final 10 in volleyball. Valley volleyball has been very good and there have been a ton of good volleyball players in the Valley in the past 25 years.

UNI's Molly O'Brien (2000-03) was the top vote getter.

      MVC Women's Basketball 25-Year Team

Shocker great Alex Harden makes the final 10 member team.

A total of 49 nominated. Hard to argue too much with these selections. Jackie Stiles the top vote getter (no surprise there).

Probalby a bit easier to come up with a Top 10 in basketball than it was for volleyball.

So what do Alex Harden (2012-15), Abbie Lehman (2014-17) and Aliphine Tuliamuk (2010-12) have in common?

All graduated from Wichita State in the past 5 years and none have been inducted into the Shocker Hall of Fame--------yet. But they all will and and it should be as soon as they satsify the 5-year waiting period for eligibility.

I also would say that all 3 have very interesting background stories as well. Certainly Alex and Abbie were under-the-radar late bloomers who far exceeded what was expected of them when the signed to play at Wichita State. Alex was known more for her track & field exploits than her basketball. She only started 9 out of 33 games as a freshman. Abbie was known more for her basketball skills (Kansas Class 5-A POY) than she was for volleyball unitl she caught Lambo's attention at his camp before her final year in high school. Both were very raw and unpolished talents when they arrived at Wichita State both were shining very brightly 4 years later. Aliphine was an accomplished long distance runner when she arrived at Wichita State as a sophomore but she rose from very modest beginnings in Kenya.

Wichita State places 5 women on the MVC's 10-Player Women's Tennis 25-Year Anniversary Team.

            MVC Announcement

The Shockers dominance in Women's Tennis in the Valley reflected with these honors.

Tomorrow the 25-Year Softball Anniversary Team will announced. That one will probably be much tougher to wittle down to 10 players. They probably should have 2 teams. A top 10 pitcheres and a top 10 position players. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.
