Moose, I think that Pooch is just hoping that the contrast in styles as well as the contrast in righty to lefty will mess up the hitters timing enough that they can minimize the big hits. The problem is that from what I have seen, none of our pitchers really have that one nasty "out pitch". So after the other team has seen them each once, that contrast is not as effective.
Also I agree that Sloan is better as a relief pitcher. But again that is because she doesn't have that special out pitch to go to. Nor does she have the velocity to challenge hitters when she gets behind in the count.
