  • Lady Shocks v Drake

The Shockers host the league-leading Drake Bulldogs this weekend. Drake, a preseason pick for 3/4 and receiving one first place vote, is leading the league at 8-0 with a 22-12 record for the season.

The Wichita State softball team is joining teams from all across the country in the fight against breast cancer. The Shockers are hosting their third annual Strikeout Breast Cancer event as they welcome the Drake Bulldogs to Wilkins Stadium for a three- game series this weekend.

    Drake 8-3 Shocks

Sloan started this one and went 4.0, facing one in the fifth. She gave up seven runs, six earned, and two homers and three doubles among the eight hits allowed. Breezy finished up. (Does Sloan have a better ERA in relief than starting?) Sammie had a homer among the five hits for the Shocks.

      Drake 6-9(8 ) Shocks

Sloan starts this game, too. The Shocks lead 2-1 after three, both of our runs being unearned.

But Drake take the lead in the fourth on a homer, double and double, all with two out. The Shocks vie for another unearned run in the fifth, but Gert lines out to second.

After a leadoff single in the sixth for Drake, Jamie is in to pitch. Clearly, either KA is hurt or the coaches have lost confidence in her. A walk and a two-out single give Drake a 4-2 lead after six. Drake score two more in the seventh on a walk and homer.

But the Shocks rally in the bottom of the last, Kiersten hitting a two-run, two-out homer. Jamie follows with a double, and Gert homers to tie the game.

Jamie continues in the circle in the eighth and has a three-up, three-down inning. A Sammie single and a Brittney walk set the stage for Danika's walk-off three-run shot.

Danika Miller with a walk-off 3-run homer for the Shocks in the 8th.

Shocks steal a win with a great come-from-behind effort. The 4 runs in the 7th and 3 in the 8th all scoring with 2-outs.

Maybe this will give the Ladies a big boost and some confidence.

Nice win Shocks and way to battle to the last out and beyond.

        :good:

Shocks down 6-0 after 4 in the series finale.

Going to need late inning heroics if they are going to win this one. Unlikely that will happen in back-to-back games.

No miracles in the bag today. Drake's Jenna Delong shuts down the Shocks with a 1-hit shut out although she did walk 5.

Breezy gave up a single, walk, walk and grand slam in 3rd and that was more than Delong needed. Decent job of pitching in relief by Sloan.

Hayley Temple with a 2-out single in the 5th had the only hit for the Shocks.

A birdie tells me that KA is hurt, what we would expect. And perhaps she has been trying to pitch hurt for awhile.

Sloan pitched well in relief of Breezy - four innings and only one hit.

Not a pitcher, but someone needs to take a serious look at this one

Two girls from Western Oklahoma have more Home Runs. One has 24 and the other has 14. Just down the road but you never know.

The "problem" with these girls is bat speed. Do they have juco bat speed or D-I bat speed? But it doesn't hurt to look to find out.

Don't know haven't seen them. There is also a juco player in Utah with more than 25 Home Runs. They are out there WSU just has to find them. There are some uncommitted 2012's and 2013's right in our backyard that would help tremendously.

Lets just say Tanno hit Butler pitching a lot better than WSU did. In fact, Doug would rather hit Tanno than let her hit the ball and she has been hit 71 times so far in her JC career.

Don't you think if Tanno was that good she would be at Butler instead? Doug doesn't miss many of them.

Her sister went to Hutch also, and Doug has Becker who has signed at Southeast Missouri State. Besides, he is on his way to Colby to shovel snow off the fields so they can play tomorrow.
