The reason I ask about the over/under on wins this year is that I was looking at how we are trending under Pooch.

Judy Favor won 17, 23 and 20 in her three season after replacing Jim Maynard. That was more than enough for Jim Schaus to make a move.

Tim Walton comes in and wins 39, 38 and 46 in his three years. No wonder Florida wanted him.

Pooch took over the progam at its zenith and has won 35,37,33,21,22 and ?. It appears we have gone full circle under Pooch and have fallen back to Judy Favor performance levels once Pooch cycled through Tim Walton's recruits.

Our pitching and defense is not good. We have a staff ERA of 5.02 and on top of that we have allowed 70 unearned runs (giving up a total of 215 runs). By comparison we have scored 116 runs, 22 of which were unearned.

We have 3 players hitting right around 0.330 (Jamie, Heather and Hayley) and two of those players complete their eligibility this year. The next highest average among the regular starters is 0.256. The rest of of the team averages 0.235.

The cupboard is not exactly looking overflowing for next year.

The conclusion to be made is pretty obvious.

We are looking at a three year turnaound if the right
recruits and a bona fide hitting coach is hired. Otherwise some of the girls will have to step up and answer the bell. Don't know what recruits are coming in but if there are not any proven hitters it could be a long dry spell.

Shocks turn the tables on the Sycamores today. They trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 5th.

They put up a 3 spot in the bottom of the 5th including 2 runs pushed across on suicide squeeze bunts. The Shocks then closed out the game with 6 run sixth behind homeruns by Rachel Milnark, Kiersten Dixon and Hayley Temple.

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the day though was by freshman pitcher Sloan Anderson. She relieved Katie Armagost with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the 1st after Katie had allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and an error. Sloan got the final out and then pitch the remaining 5 innings allowing no runs and only 3 hits and did not walk anyone keeping the Shocks in the game unitl the broke loose late. Nice job keeping the ball in the park with the wind howling out today.

Shocks salvage a little pride taking the final game of the series.

This next week gets a little tougher for the Shocks. They play 2 at Tulsa (27-9) on Wednesday and then host current league leader Drake (21-12, 8-0) next weekend for a 3-game series.
