  • Lady Shocks v Indiana State

The Shockers host Indiana State for this weekend's conference series. The Sycamores are 9-14 on the year and 0-5 in the Valley, losing three to Drake, two to Missouri State and one to the weather. As noted before, the teams were "clumped" in pairs in the preseason poll. Indiana State was paired with Bradley for 9-10 in that poll, the Shocks being paired with Evansville for 7-8.

Wichita State hosts its second weekend of Conference action in two weeks as the Shockers welcome the Sycamores of Indiana State to Wilkins Stadium for a three-game series this weekend. The Shocks and Trees open up the month of April with a double-header on Sat., April 2 at 12:00 p.m. They will wrap up the three-game set on Sun., April 3 at 12:00 p.m.

I think you are right, that is the minimum, but I actually would be a little disappointed in anything less than a sweep. It is a matter of beating the teams you should beat, and we should beat Indiana State.

FWIW, the scores in the Drake (a preseason 3/4) games were 0-2, 4-5, 0-4 and the scores against Missouri State (a 5/6) were 1-6, 1-6.

Unfortunately, looking at our record, I am sure that Indiana State is saying the same thing about us.
I know it is early, but this match up could determine our season. If we let them come in and beat us on our field, it could be over. If we sweep them, then we go on to beat all of the lower half teams in the Valley and finish in the middle of the pack (which is much better than expected pre-season)

Sammie's 2-run homer pulls the Shocks to within 7-3 after 5.

INS down in order in the top of the 6th.

Shocks fall 9-3 to Indiana State in the opener.

Shocks put 2 runners on in the 6th and had the bases loaded with 1 out in the 7th with Jamie and Heather coming to bat but could not score in either inning.

Just one question. With their record, how do you not tag and send the runner on Jamie's fly ball to left?

That run was meaningless so why take the chance of making the 3rd out at home on a great throw, or a runner leaving early or a runner slipping. I think that was the right play if you are holding out hope to win the game.

If Heather gets a hit to extend the inning the run would have scored anyway.

As it turns out you lose 9-3 instead of 9-4. Either way your record still shows another loss.

Actually, you break for home and make the girl throw the ball and make a play. Coach can always call you back.

Shocks lose Game 2 by a score of 7-3 after leading 2-1 after 4.

Question for you Hovpen (or anyone else): Why replace Breezy with Jamie Hull in the top of the 5th after giving up an infield single? She had been pretty effective.

Shocks commit 4 errors in this game. Not good.

You take Breezy out because of her past...once she gets a leadoff on late in a game, she self implodes. But, this team is done. Girls act like they don't care and give no effort. First basemen in the second game...not good. Catch the ball. Your chance to get some playing time because you haven't played there all year and you can't catch the ball or give an effort to go after foul balls because the sun is in your eyes. WHATEVER. I am tired of seeing these girls just give up. The fans seem more into it than they are. There's no enthusiasm, no effort, lack of heart. Just pathetic.

Perhaps that makes sense if you have someone better to go to, but I'm not sure that is the case with the Shocks.

What are we looking at as the over/under for Shocker wins this season - around 15 maybe.

Looks like at the present time that without a real dominate pitcher that they are trying to just space it out and not let a team get too much of a look at one in particular more than twice through the lineup in an game. However, not watching any practices or actual games thats a question only a pitching coach could answer.

Team needs to put 7 good innings together tomorrow and "compete". Otherwise the answer to 72's question is another question. How many do they have now?
