Illinois State 3-4 Wichita State
A quick hook for Katie. She allowed a walk in the first, and a homer and two walks to lead off the second and Sloane is in. Sloan eventually gives up a run-scoring single and the Redbirds lead 2-0 after one and a half.
In the bottom half, Gert reaches second on her single and an outfield error, but pinch runner Torrie Brown is thrown out at the plate following a Haley single.
In the bottom of the sixth, a walk to Brittney and a homer by Kiersten ties the game. Later, Jamie singles and Holly walks as a pinch-hitter, but Haley fans to end the inning. 2-2 after six. Sloan has retired twelve in a row at this point.
In the seventh, a bunt single and then two two-out singles plate a run for the Illinois State. In the bottom half, Erin reaches base on a HBP with one out. After a ground out advances Erin to second, Danika plates her with a double to left to tie the game. Then an error by the third baseman allows Danika to score the winning run. Sloan gets a well-deserved win - four hits, one walk, six strikeouts and one earned run in six innings of relief.

Illinois State 10-1(5) Wichita State
Breezy has this start, and there is no score after three. But mixed among two strike outs in the top of the fourth are a single, homer and double and Sloan is in again. With our lack of offense, Pooch may feel he has to have a quick hook once trouble appears.
In the bottom of the fourth, a single by Gert and double by Hayley get runners in scoring position with one out, but Rachel and Sammie strike out. In the second, the Shocks opened the inning with singles by Gert and Hayley, but a line out and two strike outs ended that threat. The Redbirds lead 2-0 after four complete.
No magic this time for Sloan. Three singles load the bases in the fifth, and she walks in a run. Two more singles score two more runs. Then a two-out error by Hayley scores a run and sets the stage for a grand slam by the next batter. The Shocks score in the fifth (walk to Brittney, double by Kiersten, wild pitch), but the Redbirds get a run-rule victory.
Jordan Birch fans eight for Illinois State.

Thanks for the recaps Moose. Nice to pick up a win against the MVC co-favorites. SIU probably likes us for that also.
They were also right in Game 2 until the meltdown in the 5th.
Now that they have the games with the co-favorites out of the way perhaps they pick it up a little over their remaining MVC schedule.
