  • Lady Shocks SB at Courtyard Classic (North Texas Univ)

This weekend's tournament is the Courtyard Classic hosted by North Texas in Denton.

North Texas are 6-6 on the season and are a preseason pick for fourth in the nine-team Sun Belt conference. Western Kentucky, a previous Shocker opponent, are picked eighth in the conference.

Other teams in the tournament are Ole Miss, UTEP, UT- Arlington and Louisiana Tech. However, the Shocks do not play La Tech.

Ole Miss are 7-12 thus far in the season, including a loss to Western Kentucky. The Rebels are picked last (sixth) in the Western Division of the SEC.

UTEP are 9-6 this season with losses to Northern Iowa (2-3) and Drake (0-8 ) and two wins over Bradley (7-6, 15-7(6)). They are picked eighth in the nine-team Conference USA.

UT-Arlington are 11-7 on the season with two of the wins coming at the expense of the Shockers. They are picked fourth of the eleven teams in the Southland Conference but have a three-game sweep of Texas State, the preseason co-favorite. This past weekend they split games with Creighton, 2-1 and 2-3.

Shocks may have made the game closer than it should have been.

They left 12 runners on base (8 in scoring position). Just could not come up with a big hit to break it open.

Katie with perhaps her best outing during her Shocker career.

She had given up only 2 hits in and no earned runs and was only a little over 80 pitches when she was replaced by Sloan after giving up a 2-out walk in the 6th. Sloan promptly issued a 5-pitch walk to move the tying run into scoring position, but got herself out of the jam with a big strike out to end the inning.

Ole Miss scored its two unearned runs in the 5th with the help of 2 Shocker errors sandwiched around a double all after the first two hitters of the inning were retired.

Still, a win is a win is a win and the Shocks definitely needed that.

Congrats to Katie on a excellent performance.

              Game two shockers lead 5-3.

Sammy gets some respect. After hitting a leadoff homer in the second, they hit her next time up.

Shocks offense much more efficient in Game 2.

ya but how does a single, passed ball and scoring on a double result in an unearned run with only one out?????

Opposing pitcher has a 6.67 era going in. I hope they hit her.

Shocks add 2 more in the 6th to run-rule the Lady Miners 11-3.

Very efficient offensive attack backed by a very solid 4 innings of scoreless relief by Breezy.

Perhaps the Shocks best day of the year so far.

                      :goshocks:

Maybe this is the boost they need to take into conference play.
                        Keep it up! :good:

Shocks in a pitchers duel with UTA heading into the 7th inning tied at 1-1.

Katie pitched a scoreless 3.1 allowing 5 hits and two walks but kept UTA off the scoreboard.

Breezy came on in relief with one out in the 4th. She did give up a game-tying home run in the bottom of the 5th.

Heather had homered in the 4th to give the Shocks the lead.

Both teams scored 1 in the 7th and both had opportunities to score more.

Brittney Osborn, Rachel Milnark and Danika Miller with 3 consecutive one-out singles gave the Shocks their run. Unfortnately, Kierston and Hayley could not follow-up both striking out to end the threat.

UTA scored on a walk, single and single with one out and then loaded the bases with a walk to former Shocker Kersti Rowan. Breezy, like the UTA pitcher, got the last two outs on stirke-outs to send the game into extra innings.

Tie breaker rules being used in the 8th.

Shocks blow a golden opportunity in the top of the 8th.

Hayley was placed on 2nd and immediately went to 3rd on a wild pitch with Jamie and Heather coming to bat.

Jamie struck out. Heather walked. Hillary Fort PH for Erin Carney and struck out. Sammie ground out to the pitcher to end the inning.

Breezy with a good job of keeping UTA from scoring their tie breaker runner.

Still tied at 2 heading into the 9th.
