  • Women's MVC Indoor Track & Field Championships Feb 26-27

The Shockers should go into the meet as the favorite to defend last year's indoor title. I will be at the meet so probably not able to update it on here so anyone who wants to contribute feel free!

This is a REALLY good Shocker women's T&F team, one of the best in school history with stars at the top and depth throughout the events. Hopefully they'll run away with it. SIU would be the only team capable of giving WSU a close meet but it's more like WSU is the only team that can beat themselves, IMO.

Replying about the questions from the men's forum for the ladies ...

    Pre-meet scoring is: WSU 192, SIU 124, Illinois St 93, Indiana St 72, UNI 61, Missouri St 53, Drake 47, Bradley 18.

So WSU will really have to really stub their toe to not bring home the hardware. Here are the big events for the Shockers ....

Mile, 3000m and 5000 should get around 60 pts, 60m and 200m should get around 30 pts, Pole Vault 18 pts, Long Jump 15 pts, Pentathlon 12 pts, 800m 11 pts. The Shocks get points everywhere right now except the 400m and the 2 throwing events. The Shocks aren't that bad in the throws its just that the MVC is the TOUGHEST women's throwing conference in the nation - no joke. Our young girls are improving but not at that level yet.

Everyone take notice, this is a GREAT team! They would probably be one of the top teams in the Big 12 right now and should score pretty decently at the national meet. Exciting stuff!

And the women's event rundown right now for WSU's 192 pts compared to SIU's 124 pts...

      Event - WSU - SIU
      60m - 15 - 0
      200m - 15 - 4
      400m - 0 - 8
      800m - 11 - 0
      Mile - 18 - 0
      3k - 18 - 0
      5k - 26 - 4
      60 hurdles - 9 - 13
      4x4 - 8 - 4
      DMR - 10 - 4
      High Jump - 9 - 6
      Pole Vault - 18 - 4
      Long Jump - 15 - 13
      Triple Jump - 8 - 15
      Shot Put - 0 - 17
      Weight - 0 - 22
      Pentathlon - 12 - 10

Not sure if this will be the same as when the entries come out but this should be a rough estimate based off the Valley lists.

Just finished browsing the Shockers 2011 Track & Field Virtual Guide.

Not only is it very well done and worth the time to review but I think I figured out who Doc's favorite Shocker trackster is:

Another strking thing about our track teams are the number of Wichita area and Kansas youngsters that are on the T&F teams.

'72, Funny stuff! I don't think doc's the only one! And yes I think it's great most of the athletes on this team are locals, another reason why they should be getting more media attention but OH WELL.

After looking at the heat sheets not much has changed. The pre-meet poll was almost unanimous with WSU getting 7 of the 8 first place votes.

            Here's the poll --> http://www.mvc-sports.com/media/2010...ll_Release.pdf

Mike Zucconi is doing a live blog from the meet and already has updated it a couple times --> http://shockertrack.blogspot.com/

Only 24 hours til the meet starts, let's go Shockers!!!

Looks like the Lady Shocks picked up 17 points in the Pentathlon so they are off and running (no pun intended).

The ladies are off to a good start. They also qualified 3 in the 60 hurdles final and SIU only had the top qualifier.

That should ensure a better point total than even the sheets predicted for the event.

Shocks finish, as expected, 1-2 in the 3k as Aliphine Tuliamuk edges Tonya Nero by just more than a second.

The ladies qualify 1-2-5 in the 200 and look to pick up more than the expected 15 in the event.

Good day I think for the ladies.

Distance medley relay coming up, with a chance to maybe qualify for nationals. Already 23rd in the National, they'll try to improve on that time of 11:27.35.

Hmmmm.....I look forward to '74's report. The Shocks finished 3rd, not first and were more than 40 seconds slower than the season best posted so far.

Perhaps we were saving some legs for other events?

La'Taish Brown with a HUGE 6.40 (21') in the long jump to win the MVC, and auto qualify for the national meet.

That jump puts her in the top 6 in the nation.

                            Well done La"Taish!!!!!

Quick report because I gotta get to bed, big day tomorrow!

The ladies did what they needed to do today and even though its only 60-54 the Shockers have a big lead in the projected points. Advanced athletes in EVERY event to the finals on the track.

The DMR was definitely NOT their "A" team. Tonya Nero and Jennifer Taylor did not run so they'll be fresher for tomorrow's finals.

Tish Brown jumped HUGE, as previously mentioned, Audacia Moore is on her way to a big meet, the dynamic duo of Nero and Tuliamuk are gonna score a ton of points ..... this team is gonna be unstoppable tomorrow!

The blog at shockertrack.blogspot.com is really good so check it out!

Keep up the good work ladies and defend that championship!
