The Shocks did the bulk of their offensive damage against Seattle who was 0-5 in the Tournament. They scored 13 of their 17 runs and had 24 of their 37 hits in the two games with Seattle. Against UCSB and WKU they only scored 4 runs on 13 hits in 3 games.

The pitching was adequate and good enough to give the Shocks a chance to win, but in the 3 losses the offense and defense was not good.

Considering the level of competition I'm not sure we really found out a whole lot about this Shocker team. Hopefully, the offense is due to the pitchers being ahead of the hitters early in the year.

Time will tell. The 2 games this coming weekend agaisnt Texas A&M will provide a good measuring stick.

Considering the assumed level of competition, we may have found out a lot about the hitting, but not much about the pitching. Unfortunately.

True dat. The Aggies are T21 in one poll after the first week, and preseason 21 in the other.

Bradley went 0-5 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe this past weekend, but they did give Texas A&M a good game losing 3-1 on Sunday.

They also lost to Texas Tech 13-2, Northwestern 11-2, Cal Poly 7-1 and Oregon State 8-6. A much tougher lineup of games than the Shocks faced.

Shocks travel to a Tournament at Texas Tech at the end of the month where they play St. John's twice and Northern Illinois twice and Texas Tech once.

I also noticed we face UT-Arlington twice in College Station and then twice again at the North Texas Tournament on the first weekend of March.

Like I said not surprised at outcome. Some bright points but what is going to happen when real competition comes along. Bradley played a much tougher schedule. The girls will get better.

A random note: I assume that our three tournaments this year are "senior tournaments" - Gert (Los Angeles (broadly speaking) and Santa Barbara), Kiersten (Houston and College Station) and Jamie (DFW and Denton). But maybe I just have too much time on my hands. :)

Too much time, too few brain cells. Yes, Breezy north of Santa Barbara and Gert south of Santa Barbara - although Atascadero and Cypress are both over two hours away. And Pasadena (Kiersten) is over two hours from College Station, for that matter.

I don't have a problem with the lack of strength of our non-conference schedule. If we were going for a Regional bid, then our RPI would need to be high. Personally I think we just need to build confidence early and try to finish higher in the Mo Valley.

                    Mentality needs to change

Seems to be the problem here. Finishing higher in MVC in not going to get quality recruits. Winning all will. Needs to be changed. Our programs should not be built on being satisfied with a 5th place finish. Winning the conference and getting into a regional is. Program is not going to change unless better recruits start coming in.
