  • Lady Shocks SB at Gaucho Classic (UCSB)

The softball team opens its season this weekend at the Gaucho Classic hosted by UC-Santa Barbara. Other teams playing are Seattle and Western Kentucky.

The Gauchos are a preseason pick for seventh of eight teams in the Big West Conference. Pacific, where Nikki Armagost (Andover Central) and Shaina Brock (Baylor/Derby) play, are a pick for fifth in this conference.

The Seattle Redhawks are a member of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference, a twelve-team, two-division softball-only conference with teams from six western states. (Who knew (Northern) Colorado was on the Left Coast.) Seattle is picked fourth in the Mountain Division.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are picked eighth in the nine-team Sun Belt Conference.

With the Shockers picked eighth in the Valley, we appear to be among peers.

On Friday we play Seattle at 3pm (all times CT) and UCSB at 515pm. On Saturday, we play UCSB at 1030am and Seattle at 515pm. We close out the tournament with a matchup against WKU at 1030am on Sunday.

It is an opportunity for a good start.

Shoud we expect above average run support in this tournament?

Weather looks good. Highs 65-70 with 0% chance of rain at this point.

We will probably need it. If Coach Margo can get the ERA of this staff anywhere close to 4.00, she will be in line for NCAA Assistant of the Year honors. I think she is quite knowledgeable and the potential is there, but that potential has to be realized.

This tournament is exactly what we need at this point. Confidence is a huge factor at this level and this could give us a boost in that area.

I'm not getting anything on Gametracker for our game with Seattle. Perhaps will only be operational for UCSB games.

Seattle was no hit in a 4-0 loss to Western Kentucky. The WKU pitcher only had 4 stirke outs so she was definitely a pitch to contact pitcher.

ya I'm not getting it either but it says 4, and if that is their time, they switched the schedule and it will be later here.

Gametracker says 4:00 ET, which is 3:00 here and 1:00 in Santa Barbara as scheduled. My guess is they simply don't have anyone available to do the gametracker input (I'm not really sure how that is done).

My guess is that the Gametracker will be operational for the Santa Barbara game at 5:15 our time (give or take).

Santa Barbara did beat WKU 3-2 in the first game of the Tournament.

Is there anywhere else that we can find the score?

Guess not. Not sure why you build a Tournament Central page with links to Recpas, Box Scores and Gametracker than don't provide any content.

                          Shocks defeat Seattle 7-2.

Breezy pitched 5.2 and Sloan 1.1. (3 walks for
Sloan in her college debut. No doubt a little nervous)

                          Heather G. went 3-4 with 2 RBI.

Coaches tried to put in Sloan for the "long relief thing" talked about in the morning paper, but had to put Breezy back in.

"Perniciaro wants to use this opening tournament to experiment. He will start Smet, but expects to use freshman lefty Sloan Anderson as a long reliever and may close with sophomore Katie Armagost, who went 4-5 with a 6.84 ERA as a freshman."
