So I can find it later.

    flyingMoose calling the upset!

Actually, the Shocks played a pretty bad game in Frostbite Falls, but they did score the last 10 points of the game and they held UNI without a field goal over the last 10 minutes of the game.

Even though UNI leads the league at the halfway point with an 8-1 record they are not at all unbeatable. In fact, one of the things that makes this year a little disappointing is that I don't believe the league is as tough this year as it was last year.

The imploding has begun. Even the coaches lost their fight with six minutes to go.

I don't know Moose, might be better not to be able to find it.

I will say I was impressed with our free throw defense tonight. That kept things from getting really, really out of hand.

          UNI 77-57 Lady Shocks

It is hard to know if they played that well, or we just made them look that good. Some of both I suspect.

Early on, we were looking to penetrate the lane to score, went to jumpers later. We kept things close until late in the first half when we looked tired, played tired, made tired decisions. Half was 32-27 UNI, I believe.

We trailed (all of this is approximate) 44-42 at the 12+ mark, and then the wheels came off. Their "full half-court" (extended half-court?) 2-1-2 zone gave us fits, and our full court trap did not im"press" them at all. We finally starting dribble-penetrating the top of the zone with some success, but by then the party was over.

We never could create any havoc against their offensive sets, and turning the opponent over is a key part of our offense. We gave up too many easy shots, with UNI having five players in double figures.

Bradley on Sunday. They beat Missouri State, 73-68 tonight.

UNI: A well coached team that executed its plan. UNI's players drove to the hoop with their right hand all night. You'd think we would sit on their right hand and see if they can go left. Not fun to watch.

Losing to UNI was not a big surprise, although I thought we would make it a lot closer than we did.

The Shocks simply are not a very good shooting team and they are prone to stretches where the opponents go on big runs. Seems like when those stretches start we tend to panic or lose our poise. Maybe we are at a point of "here we go again" syndrome.

UNI outscored the Shocks 7-0 in the last 3:30 of the 1st half and then went on a 24-10 run over an 8:45 in the middle of the 2nd half. Ballgame.
The Shocks committed 9 of their 18 turnovers during these runs. Some of our turnovers are real head scratchers. 11 turnovers from the point guards, Jessica (4) and Breanna (7), is a tough problem to overcome. Breanna had no assists and couldn't guard her shadow in the 2nd half. Not sure why she is seeing 33 minutes of playing time. Her Prouty rating was a solid F for this game. Is HCJA putting too much on Breanna's shoulders?

The Bradley win at Springfield was not expected. Combined with Drake's win over Evansville on Thursday now finds the Shocks in a 3-way tie for six with only Evansville and SIU looking up at them. A home loss to Bradley on Sunday and the Shocks will may be adding an extra game to their schedule in St. Charles.

The Shox are missing a true point guard; one who can break the press by herself. I think most teams will press and trap the Shox' guards. If you encounter an extended 3-2 trapping D the guards either have to split the trap on the dribble or back out and pass over the top for an automatic 2 on 1 layup. Easier said than done.
