As has been discussed previously, last year we started with the 6-2 and abandoned that quickly.
Sounds like Lambo will be making the decision pretty quickly and start training whatever he decides to go with tomorrow. The opening tournament in Hawaii is only a couple of weeks away.

I believe that Elizabeth Field is going to be a star this year and dominate all over the court. Field and Zwiesler both could be POY type players.
I would not leave Emily Adney off that list either. However, with Bre Payton still dealing at UNI it will take a great year to be POY.

Can we find serviceable to dominant middles that make the team dangerous all over the court? If we can get some combination of Andrade and Sanders (who I think has a TON of upside) to plug up the middle, this team could be as good as any Shocker team ever.
Elizabeth Field, Ashley Andrade and Hanna Eakin shoud be able to fill the bill in the middle very capably.

Really looking forward to seeing them on the floor.

Don't know if any of you have seen this. Sort of Lamb's look at how the season looks.

I agree with TMH. I like the new uni's.

And I still think Chelsey Feekin looks like she has slimmed down quite a bit from last year.

I don't know what we're going to do at setter. Hooper shows no ill effects from the injury and is playing as well as ever, and Feekin had a monster spring and appears even better now.

It's also not going to surprise me at all if someone new steps into the mix with Waldo and Church. They do seem to be excited about the talent, and that was an area that needed improvement last season.

If Zwiesler and Adney can provide some back row point scoring ability, this could be a very dangerous squad.

I know it's easy to get excited in the off season about potential, but barring injury, I see this season as the best yet for Shocker Volleyball.

As a reminder, big crowds help the possibility of a sub regional host. UNI managed it last season, and remember, the #3 Valley team won a match in the tourney (and WSU SHOULD have advanced to the Sweet 16 in OU) and the Valley has a bit of moxie at this point in the Volleyball world.

The talent is there, the coaching is there, the schedule is there...will the fans be there?

looks like a very talented team and has tons of potential again. According to the roster we don't have many numbers to back up the starters. Hope we can get thru the seasn without injuries or people wearing out - it's along way to the NCAA tournament

The VB101 dinners just get better every year.

Outstanding auction work by Coach 'Bolt. He had the place rockin'.

What a class act our volleyball program has become. I sure hope we can keep it that way.

                      Good job Shocker fans.

During the question and answer session someone asked Lambo whether he was going to go with the 5-1 or the 6-2 and what were the pros and cons.

He said he had not decided and then gave a very thorough explanation of the pros and cons.

My sense is that he prefers the 5-1 although he has played a 6-2 during his Shocker tenure. I suppose it boils down to how he evaluates this particular teams strengths, versatility and weaknesses.

VB 101 was fantastic. 17 couples will join team/coaches for dinner as they donated $250 per couple for the privilege. With 400 attendees at between $25 and $30 per head and the food/drink donated, that raises $11,000. I suspect with the raffle, auction items and bar tips, etc., the "class" perhaps raised $25,000 or more.

I particularly enjoyed seeing the ladies demonstrate the different defensive play calls. I can only IMAGINE how tough his practices are run.

Terrific evening. If you weren't one of the 400, plan to be next year.

                              6-2

I wonder how the 6-2 works in the 1st place. You obviously can't have 8 players on the floor at the same time. What I do understand is that it utilizes 2 setters, but I assume they are not on the floor at the same time. Does it work so that once the setter on the floor rotates to the front or back row, she comes out and the other setter comes in? My guess is that you'd rather have the setter on the back row, but that is only a guess. Once this question is clarified, I suppose it is easier to figure out what the pros and cons are to it.

xazshox: 6-2 means throughout a full rotation you play 6 attackers and 2 setters. The setter is always kept in the back row and you usually rotate middle blockers with setters as typically your middle blockers are your weakest defensive players. Therefore, when a setter gets to a spot in the rotation where they are to go into the front row a middle blocker is due to go back and serve. You replace the middle blocker with your new setter and replace the setter with your new middle. The players make the same substitutions for each other throughout the match. This always leaves 3 attackers in the front and your setters in the back.
