    I'm not a professed follower of Shocker volleyball, but I know enough to know that we have special players and a special coach. Does anyone know if the coach is here for the long term, or will WSU suffer from being a mid-major and our coach scooped up by a BCS program?

      We have a top 10 fan base in size, we fund the team well, they are the focus of fall sports at WSU and we have been recognized on a national scale over the past several years at times. The one thing we lack is the name recognition amoungst fans as a top tier program. UNI proved through the mid 80's through the late 90's that a team from a non bcs conference can be considered a national power. Now with this class he's shown he can get recruits that are recognized on a national skill.

      Volleyball still doesn't have the coaching carousel that basketball does. Guess there aren't enough fans to demand changes at most places. From everything I've ever heard they love it here in Wichita and I personally don't see us losing him.

        As usual dregn is right on the money. I believe Chris and Shannon are very happy here and are both proud of what they have accomplished and excited about what lies ahead. They continue to plan and act as if they are in Wichita for the long haul.

        The one thing that concerns me is they are not from this area and I can easily see the attraction of "being called home". From all I have been able to learn, and from what I know about the both of them, I do not think they are leaving but it would not totally surprise me.

        I'll say this, if they stay after this year, I expect them to be here at least another 5+.

          Post what you like. It's a free country. Besides isn't that what internet message boards are for - gossip and innuendo.

            Second hand information from an anonymous source about the personal lives of the Coaching staff would seem to me to be clearly gossip.

            As far as innuendo, why post it, unless you are implying that this information is somehow relevant to the Lambs future status in Wichita.

            But we can agree to disagree on this matter.

              FormerJayHawk, you need to read the posting guidelines. The stuff you posted I would consider "personal" information. Furthermore, while to this point we've only dealt with this regarding players, the information you posted is considered rumor until it's made public by an official source. Besides that, there are plenty of other plausible scenarios.

              Any more postings with this type of information will be removed.

                I sincerely apologize if I violated a posting guideline. But after reading back over the posts that spurred my comment, I am a little mystified as I don't believe I said anything that was anything different in spirit or content than WuDrWu or dregn - both made comments of things they had "learned" or "heard" - which is exactly what I did. I guess mine were more specific in nature instead of on the vague side. But again, I apologize if I posted something that was taken the wrong way or was a violation. I will re-read the guidelines to make certain it will not happen again. Let's move on now and support the girls next week at MVC in Springfield!! :goshocks: :yahoo:

                      Someone help me out here please. In basketball there are 13 schollies. How many in VB? Also, do they not like to oversign in VB, like they do in basketball? Thanks in advance.

                        The NCAA allows each division 1 Volleyball program 4.5 scholarships for Men and 12 for women.

                        Not all athletic scholarships are full ride like football and basketball, so called "head count" sports;

                        most are classed as "equivalency" sports, like men's volleyball. Put simply this means that coaches can "share" their allocation between a larger number of players.

                        Women's volleyball is classed as a "head count" sport (like football & basketball) and 12 FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIPS are awarded by each college in division 1.

                        This means the Shocks must have 8 players on their roster who are walk-ons paying their own way, although with the grades m0st of these Ladies have there is no doubt some academic scholarships involved.

                          Thanks 1972. I didn't know if it was 12 or more. Plus, I agree about the academics. I wouldn't think that there really is one with any sort of academic trouble on the team, as is displayed by the number on the honor roll and the team GPA. They do probably have at least part of it taken care of by academic scholarships.
