  • Shocks host Bradley & UNI (Senior Night)

The Shocker VB team has been flying a little bit under the radar this week with the opening of basketball season, national signing week for basketball and, unfortunately, the Clevin Hannah soap opera.

I know we shouldn't look past any opponent and, hopefully, the team will not. However, if we lose to Bradley on Friday night I will be more than a little mentally and physically ill. Think of the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man blowing up at the end of GhostBusters.

However, the UNI match on Saturday will be very tough and, while not necessarily a must win, a win over #22 UNI would be very big and a very nice resume enhancer.

Tickets are only $3 if you purchase them by Friday.

Also we have great group of Seniors we need to bid farewell to including the incomparable Emily Stockman, Mel Granville, Kim Wadsworth, Katie Niggemeyer and Stephanie Tokarz. All have made valuable contributions to the Shocker VB program and all have been outstanding representatives of WSU and our community. We will miss them all but wish them much success in their future endeavors.

In so many ways, senior night is really, really tough. This one will be especially so.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Shocks boatraced the Braves in 3. Sloppy first game then 2 beatings.

Big, big, big night tomorrow.....Senior night, lots of former Shockers will be in attendance (many were there tonight).

2nd place and a strong RPI are on the line.

        Coach Lamb after the game:

"I think there is a feeling around town like what is wrong with Shocker volleyball.....well in the eyes of the NCAA we've only been better for 3 weeks in the history of the program."

Get out and see what should be a spectacular match tomorrow night. I know you don't have anything better to do.

Definitely sloppy in the 1st set, especially our service reception and passing. Dominate in Sets 2 and 3.

Final Scores: 25-20, 25-8 and 25-12. If the Shocks had come out with more focus and fire the match probably would have lasted less than an hour. Not a lot of long rallies at all. That will not doubt change against UNI tomorrow night. Last I heard UNI was up 2 sets to none at MSU.

I wasn't surprised to see Emily Adney with some PT tonight with the opponent being Bradley. Apparently, she was playing the position for the 1st time and was outstanding throughout. Looks like she has moved ahead of Amanda Backes in the rotation.

I sure hope Shocker fans will get out and support these Seniors tomorrow night as they are very deserving. A crowd less the 5,000 will be disappointing.

Northern Iowa sweeps MSU in Springfield. 25-21, 25-21 and 25-16.

UNI is playing great VB and they appear to be primed and ready for the Shocks.

That's four matches in a row where the Shocks have had by far and away there worst set of the match in Set 1. Lost to CU 23-25 before pretty much steamrolling the Bluejays. Took OT to knock of SIU 29-27 in Set 1 enroute to a sweep; Lost to Evansville 21-25 before turning it on to finish off the Aces; then we have the slow start tonight. We need to break this trend against UNI.

This is a match where the crowd just might make the difference. We need a large AND enthusiastic crowd tomorrow night to bid the Seniors farewell and to get the Shocks going from the get go.

sCUm beat SIU. This should help a tie breaker with MSU no?
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

Should but CU still has UNI in front of them. Let's knock of UNI tomorrow night then take care of ILS and INS next weekend and we won't need any stinking tiebreaker.

From Lambo's post-match comments: This is the first time ever Emily has had swings from the right side, and she was the player he wanted to talk about. He has been looking for some consistency and maybe this was it. She hit .750 with nine kills and no errors.

.750 and a bunch of missles. I'd love to see more of that the rest of the way.

I agree. Even though the Bears appear to have fallen off the pace performance-wise lately, that is a very, very impressive win by UNI.

Actually, I'm not sure that this does help the Shocks since MSU beat Creighton twice this year and the Shocks split with Creighton. I'm not sure how the tiebreaker works but that would seem to favor MSU in the tiebreaker. As I said before lets beat UNI, ILS and INS to close out the season and make it a mute point.

One other interesting facet or stat from the Bradley match. Hoop attempted only 1 attack. I glad to see that as I think defensives have been scouting her attacks well and that she needed to be more selective.

Of course when you hit 0.506 as a team there isn't much reason for the setting to be dumping the ball much.
