several players have stepped it up over last year, Sara Waldorf being one of them. Last year when she had an error, she would get very upset with herself. At times it would affect her play. Not this year. She is playing with a lot of confidence. I think she may be the quickest player on the team. The season is still early but watching "Waldo" make positive strides is one of several WSU volleyball players I will be watching. I think she has a lot of upside.

On service reception, she had some overpasses which gave UNC free kill attempts and kills. She seemed to have fewer of these as the match went one. She also had some errors (RE) and bad passes of service reception; this also seemed to get better as time went on.
On serves, she was amazing. Once she started serving it in (since her first couple serves were served out), she was hitting her spots, putting pressure on UNC, etc. She makes serving look very easy (and making consistently good serves is not easy). By her senior year, she could be the best server in WSU history if she keeps improving.
Her defense improved as the match went on. I think there is a chance Church may be Libero in 2010 because her service reception and floor defense may be better than Waldo. However Waldo will play in every set in 2010 and will be an important defense specialists & service expert for the team.
(Of course, my predictions on who will be Libero are always wrong. ;-) )Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:

Did you notice to whom Oral Roberts frequently served during the match? Although the box score lists only one SRV RE for her, Sarah Waldorf was the target at which ORU aimed and many of her passes were poor. (I wish I could see Lamb's stats on the game.) If she doesn't improve and if she is our libero in 2010, it will be a long year.
I want to be clear; I wish 'waldo" was great at service reception and I hope she improves a great deal during the season because we'll need her next year. At the moment, however, I think Jackie Church has a better shot at libero in 2010. Maybe Lindsey Engel will be the next "Kelly Broussard" and start as libero as a redshirt freshman? Maybe we'll bring in a new player who will start as a true freshman (ala Hooper & Adney). Who knows? Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:

I agree that Waldo's service reception game needs work. However, she must be getting it done in practice. I know Lambo believes that if you get it done in practice you deserve to play in the matches, although you need to follow through with performance in the matches.
I'm confident Jackie Church would be in there now if Lambo thought she would be more effective than Waldo, although Lambo did say the competition at that positon was close. I trust Lambo to make those judgements. I also agree with Spanlger that we will need someone to step up their game between know and next year if we are going to continue our succession (Augspurger, Broussard, Granville) of strong Libero's.
I have also heard him say some of the girls need to play like they practice. One in particular he has made this point to and has talked about is Kim Wadsworth. Apparently, she tears it up in practice but just has not been able to carry that same level of performance over to the matches.
Kim looked pretty good vs ORU so maybe she that will finally kick in for her.
