  • Shockers vs BlueJays

Now on to the next match of the year this Friday vs the Creighton Bluejays:

This match will feature the league’s top-ranked offense (Creighton) against the league’s top-ranked defense (Wichita State).
In MVC only matches, the Bluejays are first in the league in attack percentage (.250), kills per set (14.09) and assists per set (13.09).
The Shockers rank first in opponents hitting percentage, holding foes to a .047 mark, and also lead the way with 2.95 blocks per set.

As mentioned on another thread Creighton is very capable of knocking the Shocks from the ranks of the unbeaten. They have won 5 straight since their loss to the Shocks earlier in the year.

The BlueJays laid a heartbreaking loss on the Shocks on 10/13/06 when they came back from a 12-14 deficit in game five to win 17-15 to take the match.

We need 5,000 Shocker fans at the Chuck on Friday to help the team maintain the dream season. It's Creighton guys and gals. What more reason do you need.

Creighton with Senior (4)/Junior(4) dominated roster is experienced and will not be intimidated in the least bit by the Shockers.

They have an excellent Senior Setter in Korie Lebeda and a very good Senior Libero in Bianca Rivera.

CU may have the edge at setter due to Lebeda's experience. Not sure anyone in the country, though, is more solid than Kelly B at Libero for the Shocks.

CU's hitting attack is led by 6'0" Jr Jessica Houts, 6'3" Sr Amanda Cvejdlik, 6'1" Sr Carolyn Decker, 6'1" Allie Oelke and 6'0" Lauren Bloemke.

No doubt CU has the size and experience to challenge the Shocks.

With the Shocks wearing an ever-increasing target on their backs I am expecting another very, very competiitve match this Friday.

The Shocks won the 1st meeting of the year with Creighton in Omaha 3 sets to 1 by scores of 25-16, 22-25, 27-25 and 25-23.

The Shocks won the 1st set easily but had a dogfight on their hands the remaining 3 sets.

Great article on Emily Stockman in today's Eagle:

As much as I love Kelly Broussard's passion, desire, athleticism and leadership it would be very hard to deny Emily the MVC Player of the Year award if she continues to play as she has this year.

In any case, both Emily and Kelly will need to be on their games tonight against a very tough Creighton team if the Shocks are to maintain their unbeaten status. No reason to think they won't be as both players seem to be able to elevate their play when needed.

I think the Valley should start to fear the Shox when MEH comes to serve in late game situations when we're trailing. HOOOOOPER seems to have some kind of magic :D

This is my first post, and I might as well own up to being a student. I don't know if many of them made it over to the game, but most the basketball team showed up to a free pizza pre-party for students before the night's action. Garret decided that he was gonna try on Ramon's hat as they were leaving, not sure what the fallout from that was. Looks like a chummy bunch, makes me hope for good things coming up here in a couple of weeks! :yahoo:

I did see 3 of the basketball players take a seat up behind the Shox bench in game 3 briefly. Mantas and Garrett and I'm not sure who the third was. He was wearing red shorts but I never got a good look. Can't wait for tomorrow.

I was fully expecting going into tonight to see Creighton take at least one game. Glad they didn't as a sweep of CU is always a nicer feeling!

                              Good call, pogo.

Shocks dominated the Bluejays in Sets 1 and 2.

Maybe they lost their edge at halftime due to the ease of winning the first two sets because they simply did not play well, with the exception of Emily who was lights out, in Set 3.

Again though this team just seems to find a way to pull out wins. Looked like we were going to a 4th set when the Shocks trailed 16-20, but the Shocks finally shook off the blahs a closed out the match in 3.

21-0 and 10-0. A great day to be a Shocker.
