  • Shockers vs Bradley

Shockers cruise to a sweep over Bradley 25-10, 25-15 and 25-12.

Perhaps the most important aspect of tonights match is the Shockers were able to come out focused and took care of business after a grueling and emotionally draining win over UNI last night.

Missouri State defeated UNI tonight in 4 sets, which gives the Shocks a 2-match lead at the halfway point of the MVC conference race.

    Shocks now 20-0 (9-0).

Tough match with Creighton coming up next Friday. Creighton now tied for 2nd at 7-2 with UNI and playing well.

    :goshocks: :good:

We may have made a few more fans tonight. My sisters VB team she coaches at the Y was there and I know the kids all had a blast and heard a number of parents comment on how impressed they were. Some of the ladies mentioned that this was nothing like the VB they remember from when they played. And my sister has already talked to the parents about doing it again.

I must have missed it when they announced last night. It was obviously less than UNI, and I couldn't help to wonder why after last nights great comeback, that there wasn't more people there for this game.

I think the lower attendance was simply due to a weaker (much weaker) opponent.

Also, in my mind one of the negatives of the Friday/Saturday scheduling used by the MVC is that many people will chose one match to attend.

I suppose 2,200 is not too bad considering the opponent. We averaged 3,100 for the weekend and that appears to be about where our attendance has plataued for now.

No doubt a big factor. I enjoy a good football game myself.

                  Scheduling

It may be that the far flung MVC tends to cause 2 games to be played on weekends & Friday, Sunday schedule would hae the ladies away from studies a lot. I looked at the KSU schedule just now and see that they typically play one game on Fri's & another midweek either home or away.

I think it boils down to your point about classroom time and also travel costs. Each team has a travel partner which is the school they are closest to. In WSU's case that's is MSU. They either travel to or host another set of travel partners. Most conferences do this type of Scheduling, although some will go Thurday-Saturday or Friday-Sunday instead of back-to-back. The Big XII is the only conference I have seen that plays one mid-week and one weekend match schedules. I think acadamic issues are a factor, but perhaps the #2 factor behind economics.

I was thinking it was weird that the Big 12 had games during the midweek. I could understand it if all the schools were just a short bus ride away. Maybe WSU could do that with Creighton, Drake, and MSU in the conference but no one else.

And 1972 is right about the money. VB typically loses money at every school. Maybe Nebraska makes some, but I can't imagine many others do at all. And they can do bus trips this way alot easier than if the games were only one at a time.

The Big XII plays all conf games on Wednesdays and Fridays.. This is only because they fly to every game over about 4 hours away. The shockers take one flight per year and bus everywhere else making the mid week conf games impossible.

That is one thing that Lamb can be very proud of so far - no letting up against weaker opponents.

Sub, tell your Sister that while the Bradley match was enjoyable, it was really just a nice walk in the park, compared to the intensity of the knock down, drag-out, take no prisoners, leave it all on the court battle between the Shocks and UNI on Friday.

Next Friday's Match against Creighton could be another Battle Royale in the Chuck.

I would highly recommend attending that match for her team and any others who would like to have about as much fun as you can have at a college sporting event.

That was the first thing my brother said after the game to the parents. I hope they do it again as well and I'll be that bug in my sisters ear.
