  • Shocks vs Redbirds 10/03/08

Shocks take on the always tough Illinois State Redbirds tonight in Koch Arena.

Last time the Shocks ran up against Illinois State was in last year's MVC Tournament in Springfield when the Redbirds summarily eliminated the Shockers on their way to the Tournament Championship.

Illinois State will be confident that they can play with the Shocks and they have some very good players with the size and athleticism to give the Shocks a very tough match.

I'm looking forward to a hotly contested match and a very important match for the Shocks with respect to both their National Ranking and their MVC Championship goals.

Hope to see a big and enthusiastic crowd at the Chuck tonight.

    :goshocks:

I will be attending my first volleyball game tonight! Very exciting. I have a brief weekend excursion and will be flying in from Houston just in time to get to the game. Although I'll be watching my 2-year old so I don't expect to see a lot of the game, the concourse however will be a different story.

You'll be in the KC hat, correct?

I thought the Shocks looked a bit off their game tonight. Dominating at times, sloppy and indifferent at others.

A veritable who's who in Shocker athletics in attendance this evening.

Agreed, at least in Sets 1 and 2. Nevertheless, they continue to pull out wins even when not playing at the top of their game.

I thought the Shocks looked pretty solid in Set 3.

                  I didn't hear the attendance announced, but I suspect a shade above normal...say 2800.

It seemed to me like the crowd was a bit off their game as well. Somewhat listless.

LOL, good memory. No, I was wearing my Nike visor tonight. One thing of note, it's probably because I have never watched or played volleyball in ages, but since when can the first serve hit the net and still count instead of having to re-serve?

The serve rule changed when they went to rally scoring, maybe 4 or 5 years ago now. The play I question was what I thought was an intentional kick. I believe it can hit your body and be live, but can't be intentional. I might be wrong. I still haven't seen a set where the Shockers really impress me, but they are always running new and different stuff on offense then we've seen in years past.

In the 3rd set all the little ones on the bench and the KILLERS played great defence. WOW that was neat.
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

Good guess. The attendance was 2843.

That was the 1st time I have witnessed an intentional kick at a WSU match. In fact, there was another attempted kick save by an ILS player later in the match. Maybe, they practice that.

The kick is actually legal, you can use any part of your body to kee the ball alive. I was actually pretty impressed with the kick saves, she must have been a soocer player too!
