  • Scores to Watch - 10/1 to 10/05

    #11 Oregon:

    Fri. Oct 3 (Home) vs #5 UCLA (Quack Attack Upsets #5 UCLA; 25-22, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21)
Sat. Oct 4 (Home) vs #4 USC (Ducks do it again, Sweep #4 USC; 25-17, 25-18, 25-16)

Oregon can lose both an not drop any in the polls. I win over either team would solidify their position above the Shocks.

    #12 Colorado State:

Thur. Oct 2, (Away) vs. Air Force (CSU Sweeps 25-11, 25-20, 25-23 but closer than expected)
    Sat. Oct 4 (Home) vs. #25 Arizona (CSU in 4; 25-20, 29-31, 25-22 and 25-19)

Air Force should be an easy win for the Rams, but a loss to #25 could open a door for the Shocks to move up a notch.

    #13 Minnesota:

    Fri. Oct 3, (Away) vs. #19 Illinois (Minnesota wins in 5 sets; 25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-8)
Sun. Oct 5 (Away) vs #18 Purdue (Minnesota dominates Purdue in sweep; 25-14, 25-16, 25-19)

Two tough road matches for the Gophers. Another possible window to move up?

    #15 Pepperdine:

Thur. Oct 2 (Away) vs. #34 St. Mary's (Pepperdine squeezes out a win in five sets to stay undefeated. Scores were 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 28-26, 15-10)
Sat. Oct 4, (Away) vs. #23 Santa Clara (Santa Clara wins in 5 coming back from 0-2 deficit; 21-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-10)

    #16 San Diego:

Thur. Oct 2 (Home) vs Gonzaga (Toreros sweep Zags 22, 18, 14)
    Sat. Oct 4 (Home) vs Portland (Toreros in 4; 19-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18)

Two easy wins for San Diego over the two worst teams in the WCC. A WSU win over Illinois State should be of higher value than wins by San Diego over either Gonzaga or Portland.

    #17 Kansas State:

    Wed. Oct 1 (Away) vs Kansas (KSU in 5; 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 18-25, 15-9)
Sat. Oct 4 (Away) vs #3 Texas (#3 Longhorns impressive in Sweep of 'Cats; 25-20, 25-21, 25-16)

A loss to #3 Texas will not hurt the Wildcats. Should they defeat Kansas on the road and upset Texas on the road they move ahead of the Shocks IMHO.

    #18 Purdue:

Fri. Oct 3 (Home) vs Iowa (Purdue Sweeps; 25-22, 25-23, 25-23)
Sat. Oct 5 (Home) vs #13 Minnesota (Minnesota dominates - See Above)

Shocks looking for help from Boilermakers vs #13 Minnesota.

    #19 Illinois:

Fri. Oct 3 (Home) vs #13 Minnesota (Minnesota Wins - See Above)
    Sat. Oct 4 (Home) vs Iowa (Illini wins in 4; 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 25-15)

    #20 Wisconsin:

    Fri. Oct 3 (Home) vs #22 Michigan (Badgers Survive in 5; 25-27, 18-25, 26-24, 26-24, 15-10)
Sun. Oct 5 (Home) vs Ohio State (Wisconsin Sweeps; 28-26, 25-16, 25-17)

#33 UNI was swept at home last night by #28 St. Louis by scores of 14-25, 19-25 and 19-25.

A good opportunity for UNI to move up in votes and to get a good win for the MVC goes by the boards.

Not to take anything away from St. Louis, but I did not expect them to dominate UNI at home like they did.

Maybe St. Louis is a program we need to try and get on our non-con schedule in the future.

St Louis beat Stanford earlier this season so you can't just look at the name and expect the win.

It would have been a quality win no doubt and certainly an opportunity lost.

I have no doubt that UNI will have something a little closer to their A game when the Shocks come calling.

I wasn't necessarily expecting a UNI win, but I did expect them to be a little more competitive at home.

There is no doubt St. Louis is a quality team.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from '72....although the outcome wasn't a big surprise the score differential certainly was.

Indiana State had 5 match points in the 3rd set against MSU tonight in Springfield, but could not put the match away. MSU rallied to win the 3rd set 28-26 after dropping the 1st 2 sets 19-25 and 13-25.

MSU went on to win sets 4 and 5 (25-13 and 15-12) to win the match.

Indiana State may be tougher than I thought coming into this weekend.

Santa Clara wins the final three sets after going down 0-2 to beat Pepperdine.

This leaves Penn State, Nebraska, and Wichita State as the only undefeated teams in the nation.

Looks like Shocks held serve and should maintain #14 ranking this week.
