  • Attendance

Last year we finished 7th in the nation with a 2550 average. Last night we had nearly that with 2432 on a late Thursday, against an average opponent (at best) and up against the McCain speech.

We only have 13 home dates this season and 4 of those are this week. This morning will be down but tonight and Saturday should be good crowds, 3000+ at minimum.

Then it's Valley season. We know the Drake match will be a huge draw up next to Shocker madness. 6000+ and maybe bigger.

You also have to think there will be another $1 promo game which always draws well.

Let's say 1200 season tickets (my guess only) and 2 games at 6000. By my calculations we would need to average 1125 in walkups to get to a 3000 average and that isn't counting the Valley tourney.

Is this doable or pie in the sky?

I thought we had one of the better student turnouts last night.

Not huge but an improvement over past years. Hopefully, that can be built on.

3,000 is doable, but I don't think we will reach that. We'll be doing well if we average 2,500.

I just sense we have reached a plateau in attendance and, hopefully, we can sustain that now.

      Doc,

Just to let you know I picked up four season tickets. If I knew who the hell you were, I'd let you hug me at the game tonight.

I should be there tonight but may not make Saturday due to a wedding. I don't know if we can expect to average 3k at this point. But continued success will continue to bring in younger kids/young adults and will grow. A run in the NCAA tournament would definitely help. We'll see in a few years.

I've never been to a VB game but thought I would go watch us play a Big Ten team tomorrow night. However, I went by the ticket office around 2:00 and the doors were locked with a sign that it wouldn't be open again until 4:30.

I assume there is a good reason but I wasn't pleased.

              Shockdude,

I understand your frustration but the staff does have to put in extra hours tonight with the evening game and it's tough scheduling wise to have a limited staff there 9am to 10pm......this is my opinion only.

              I'll give you an option:

Buy the tickets online and you can print the tickets at home and avoid the rush and to make up for the extra online charge I'll give you 2 tickets to a volleyball game of your choice. Just PM me and let me know.

              Thanks for your support

                Doc,

Thanks very much for the offer. Actually, as a alum I've very proud of the way the athletic department is run and the friendliness that the staff shows.

No ticket neccessary- I will go to the game (actually, I didn't think of the on-line option-my fault)

I'm almost 50 and I ought to grow up a little.

                Thanks

Attended the Saturday night match vs OSU and was disappointed in the attendance(2704). I really expected to see 3000 plus.
The ladies really gutted out a hard fought victory. Give OSU credit they got their act together after the 2nd set and competed
till the last point was recorded.

shockdude, I am assuming you made the Ohio State match.

What were your initial impressions of Shocker VB? Will you be back for more?

WSU is currently fifth in average attendance!!! We are at 2392 (below last year's attendance) and we need more fans in the stands!! :D
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Four MVC teams in the top 17. Not bad.

Though I get the sense that the list is incomplete (besides there only being 17 schools listed).

I also question the attendance for the WSU games from last Friday. I wasn't there, but from the sounds of it there couldn't have been 2215 at the morning match. Is that truly accurate or is it the attendance of the evening match?

EDIT: For the record, that type of reporting (same attendance figures for two matches on the same day) appears to be the standard, as Penn St. and Purdue do it, as well.

Royal, I think because they sell the tournament tickets as a daily pass to all the matches on one day, they are allowed to report the total sold for that day as attendance at each match. A little funky, but if you are allowed to count paid attendance and not actual attendance I guess it works.

I am a little disappointed the VB team does not get more crossover support from Shocker basketball fans but it is what it is.

Still, Shocker Volleyball season tickets are IMHO a great entertainment value.
