It's probably been out for awhile but I was taking a look at this year's schedule and it appears that Coach Lamb is continuing to upgrade the non-con in an effort to better prepare the ladies for post season action.
The Shocks will face several tests against the likes of Michigan State, Ohio State, Cal-Poly & Oklahoma.
They start the season in Soonerland with a tough 4 team tourney that includes Michigan State, Cal-Poly, WSU and host OU. WSU beat OU this spring as the Sooners graduated 6 of their top 8 from their team that went to a 3rd straight NCAA tournament. Cal-Poly lost 2 of their better players but should be a preseason top 20 team and MSU lost their 2 biggest hitters but will be very good and they made the sweet 16 last season. I would guess the Shocks will be favored over OU but wins over either of the other 2 would be an outstanding start to the season.
After visiting UMKC on the 2nd, the Shocks open their only home non-conference appearance in the Best Western Classic on the 4th with Lamar. WSU will also face Idaho State, Coastal Carolina and in the feature match on Saturday evening, Ohio State.
Buckeye.
WSU avoids Cal-Bakersfield who finished 2nd in the independent tourney last year in their first season as D1 school. It would appear the RoadRunners will bring a very good team to Wichita, and frankly I'm not sure why we aren't playing them (the only team we are not playing that weekend).
The next weekend it's off to Pullman, Washington to find out who is the best WSU in the country. Washington State & Montana State should prove easy pickings and the Northwestern match should decide the winner of this 4 team tourney.
After that it's all MVC all the time before the post season tourney begins, IN WICHITA, on November 27 (Thanksgiving). Go ahead and make your plans to attend today. I don't want to hear about "family plans", "football" etc.......myself, 1972 and Spangler (amongst others) will conspire to shut down the entire board if there aren't at least 6k in attendance for the Valley Title. Please don't make us work harder than we already do. :D
Another fun season is on the horizon. Yes we lost the 2 time defending MVC player of the year and an All-Conference performer but the cupboard is far from bare, the talent is being upgraded and there is plenty of depth and experience to sustain another strong season.
Can't wait 'til August!
