    WICHITA, Kan. ? Wichita State volleyball student-athlete Sara Lungren has been named the female recipient of the Missouri Valley Conference's Dr. Charlotte West Scholar-Athlete Award, Valley Commissioner Doug Elgin announced on June 12. Eitan Barbalat of Bradley is the male recipient. Lungren is just the third Wichita State student-athlete to earn the award joining Elizabeth Meyers in 2006 and Dylan Schmidt in 2007.

      Just wanted to pop in here from the baseball forum and give my congrats to Ms. Lungren. I met her at a junior high track meet at Burden, Ks. where she was helping ( she said she had a relative in the school system there) with the high jump event. Outstanding young woman. Of course she was wearing her Shocker apparel, as was I, and we briefly chatted about the Shox. My 14-year-old son, who is already 5'7" said that she was the tallest girl he'd ever seen. He was awestruck. As we all are. Kudos Sarah.
