  • 2017 NonConference Opponent Results

We seem to kind of bounce around as to where we post and discuss these results so I thought I would go ahead and start a separate thread to follow how our non-con opponents are doing.

Scores for October 4th through 8th:

Lipscomb swept North Florida but lost to Jacksonville 3-1 on the road. Lipscomb at 2-3 in conference play off to a tough start.

ETSU swept Mercer and beat Samford 3-1 at home.

Belmont beat Tennessee Tech 3-1 but lost a 5-setter to Jacksonville State on the road.

IUPUI swept Milwaukee and beat Green Bay 3-1 at home.

Marquette swept Creighton and swept Providence at home.

Miami (OH) beat Buffalo and Akron at home both by 3-1 scores.

Duquesne lost at VCU 3-0 and play at Davidson today.

Oregon swept by Stanford at home and host Cal today.

Cal Poly with a nice 5-set road win at Hawaii.

Creighton on the road was swept by Marquette and then swept past DePaul.

Iowa State was swept at home by Baylor on Wednesday and do not play this weekend.

So far 12-6 with two matches to be played today.

The Mustangs were down 0-2 in this match.

I think some of the non-con (notably, Lipscomb) is not performing to Lambo's hopes. The Lipscomb match was a >80% match. Iowa State was about 50-50 - Baylor is having a nice season.

Oregon sweeps Cal to bring the weeks record to 14-6. So a decent 70% week for Shocker non-con opponents.

For the year Shocker non-con opponents are now 148-85 (63.5%) and have reached Lambo's target winning percentage zone of 63% to 65%.

Duquense is the only Shocker non-con opponent with a sub-500 record at 10-13.

Belmont is at .500 and Lipscomb, ETSU and IUPIU are all just 1 game over .500.

Miami, Marquette, Oregon, Cal Poly, Creighton and Iowa State are all have very good seasons.

For Monday, October 23 through Sunday, October 29:

So far Shocker non-con opponents are 16-5 (76.2%) this week including a 3-1 win by Iowa State over #11 Kansas tonight in Ames.

Only Lipscomb plays on Sunday and will be favored over NJIT.

Update: Lipscomb did in fact sweep NJIT to move this weeks non-con opponent record to 17-5 (77.3%). Lambo will like that and the Iowa State win over Kansas is icing on the cake.

The Shocks non-con opponents know have a165-90 records for a 64.7% winning percentage near the top of Lambo's 63%-65% target zone.

Non-con opponents results for Monday, October 30th through Sunday November 5th:

                            Lipscomb 1-1
                            ETSU 2-0
                            Belmont 0-2
                            IUPUI 2-0
Marquette 0-1 Loss to Creighton. They play Providence today.
                            Miami 2-0
Duquesne 1-0 They play VCU today.
Oregon 1-0 They play #2 Standford today.
Creighton 1-0 Swept Marquette. They play DePaul today.
Iowa State 1-1 Lost at #24 Baylor

11-5 with 4 to play today. I think the four teams today most likely will go 2-2. If that prediction holds the week will end at 13-7 or right at 65%..

Update: Marquette and Creighton were winners today. Duquesne and Oregon lost. So 13-7 it is for this week.

That takes the season record for these teams to 178-97 keeping the winning percentage at 64.7%.

For Monday November 6th through Sunday November 12th Shocker non-con opponents went 16-6 (.727) including Iowa State's loss to #3 Texas. That will work.

6 of the Shocker 11 non-con opponents (Lipscomb, ETSU, Belmont, IUPUI, Miami and Duquesne) finished their regular season schedules this week. All we be playing in conference post-season tournaments.

Only Duquesne at 13-15 has a sub-.500 record. Belmont is 14-14. On the other end of the spectrum Cal Poly is 24-2.

Oregon is a bit of a disappointment. They looked like world beaters when they beat the Shocks in the non-con. The are now 16-8 overall and 9-7 and tied for 6th in the PAC-12.

Year-to-date that puts our non-con opponents at 194-103 for 65.3% winning percentage. Just a hair above the top of Lambo's 63%-65% target range.
