Got a last minute invite to the vb banquet last night and had a great time, a few highlights...
*What a good looking and classy group of people- coaches and players
*Lambo discussed the new league, going to be like having a year full of non-con matches. Going to miss the relationship with MVC coaches, all got along. Has an idea it's not the same in the AAC.
*15 players will travel to road games
*schedule is done just waiting on contracts to be signed. Tournaments at Oregon, Lipscomb and believe Green Bay Mil. Home tourney will have Iowa State and Creighton, still looking for a third team.
* Mike Kennedy shared that 14 years ago he learned one week before the first game that he would be calling it, crash course with Lambo saved him.
* team had highest gpa of any team on campus, Danny has been rewarded a NCAA scholarship to continue her academics at any University.
* Lambo told of Loyola coaches doing some intensive statting of all the MVC matches, was told their numbers showed that Jody was the MVP for the season, Lily Johnson of MSU was fourth.
*Senior speeches were emotional from Katy, Danny and Jody. Katy's struggles for playing time over the years were very tough but helping her now in working with helping youths, not sure exactly of the details but could tell it really means a lot to her. Danny discussed coming in as a setter and becoming a libero, also the leadership mentoring she received from numerous staff and admin. Lambo talked of his mission to show how his stats show that the libero is not given the credit it deserves. Not sure what her plans are for the future. Jody's Discussed some of more humourus personalities and happenings of the team and staff. Said that coaches didn't know what to do with her coming out of high school, Lambo let her just play. Lambo also thought that someday she would transfer back home
* probably best line of the evening was Jody telling how she had grown up listening to Mike Kennedy and that he was the Morgan Freeman of WSU.
* Recommend this event to everyone, first time in the Rhatigan Center and it's a beautiful place. Last time I was there we called it the CAC!
