RPIs for the past year are 35 v 125 in volleyball and 78 v 178 in softball. However, softball has graduated the (effectively) only two pitchers, so who knows what the team will look like next year.

The Shocks have a very good core returning for Volleyball led by seniors Emily Heibert, Abbie Lehman, Mikaela Raudsepp and possibly Jenny Whitledge if she has recovered fully or close to fully from last season's injury plus junior Tabitha Brown. We have good experience at DS with seniors Gabi Mostrom and Hannah Shelton and, hopefully, Giorgia Civita has recovered from her knee injury from last season. Beyond that we are pretty inexperienced although I have no doubt with some talent.

As you point out next season could be a bit of a rebuild for the Softball team depending on how effective a pretty much totally new and young pitching staff performs. I think it could be a challenging year for the Shocks but we will see.

Year after next and the Volleyball team will have some huge holes to fill but Lambo has been doing this successfully for a long time.

Think there is a good core coming back with our hitters, will be interested if Jenny comes back as a hitter or DS? Dudz was never very flashy and maybe a little limited on what she could do but she was fairly consistent, think one of the young girls is going to have to step there. Now the DS and libero positions have me a little concerned. Jody and Danny are going to be difficult to replace. Might help if Jenny becomes a DS, Gio is also coming of an injury so it will be interesting how much she can improve. The rest all seemed inconsistent last year, hopefully a year of maturity shows up.

          Libero Discussion

I ran across Georgia Civita during the last WSU practice game a couple of mos ago. She was walking around in the stands with 2 other girls on the injured list, one being Peare. Georgia said she will be ready to go when practices start in July. Reagan Peare didn't sound so optimistic. Since then she has given it up.

We officially became part of the American Conference on July 1st but is really nice to see the American Conference claim us as part of their team even if the award relates to a time we were still a member of the Valley:

American Earns Six Spots on AVCA Team Academic Award List.

UCF, Cincinnati, SMU, Temple, Tulsa and Wichita State each made the list.

The Valley was very well represented as well. Excluding Wichita State but including Valpo the Valley had 7 teams on the award list.

It will be interesting to see what kind of player will be post-injury. Jenny's injuries sounded pretty devastating. She sufferred both a torn ACL and a torn MCL and bone bruises to her tibia (shin bone) and femur (thigh bone). These injuries can be even more challenging both physicallly and mentally to a player who relied heavily on her athleticism and ability to get off the ground. She had a 6 to 8 month recovery period (twice as long as Landy Shamet is facing with his foot).

Prior to her season ending injuries I believe Lambo had big plans for Jenny and her 6 rotation versatility. At this point I suppose it is anybody's guess on what her capabilities will be post-surgery and post-reovery. At this point about the only thing I know is that she is on the roster. Perhaps more information will be forthcoming at the VB101 Dinner.

Pretty cool stuff. Heck of a group of coaches, admins and student athletes.

Actually Jenny is about 11 days from a complete 1 year recovery, she had surgery in early August of last year. Every bit 3 times the time Landy will have. Bumped into her at Andover where she was working the MAYB tournaments last weekend and she said she is ready to go. If you remember right, she played the entire Spring ball season back in April and was only 7 months removed from the surgery at that time, and at about 70% then. Should be a fun and exciting new chapter in volleyball for the Shockers. Can't wait to see what Lambo rolls out there this year. Everybody make an effort to get to the 101 Dinner on the 19th, you will have a great time!

Shocks picked as the preseason favorite in their inaugural AAC season.
