  • APR Perfection for Volleyball (Again)

Shocker Volleyball team achieved a perfect APR score for the 7th consecutive season.

Coach Marshall got a $35,000 bonus for the men's basketball score of 957, Jody Adams picked up an extra $10k for her teams 969 and Todd Butler picked up an extra $13k for baseball's 960 score. Men's basketball has the lowest APR, followed by baseball, men's track and field at 963 and then women's basketball.

The article doesn't say whether Lambo or any of the other coaches receive APR bonuses or not. Too bad at least half of that money doesn't go to the students.

Sorry to beat a dead horse but WSU needs to make sure they take care of Lambo.

So should a student-athlete's scholarship money and/or FCoA stipend be tied to the team's APR score?

it would be interesting if a sort of "trust fund" of sorts could be established, beyond scholarships and FCoA. I'm not entirely familiar with how the APR is calculated, but hypothetically, a certain amount could be placed into an "account" for each SA on the team, perhaps dependant on their academic performance that year. Then once they graduate, or meet whatever condition is needed for that student to have a positive effect on the program's APR, that fund would be awarded to them.
I'm sure that sort of compensation isn't within the current NCAA guidelines, but it's a fun hypothetical notion.

They already do this. The fund is called a degree, and it allows them to go get a job and get paid. Just like all the other students.

Think best way to get the money to the kids is to let the money be used by the programs themselves. Maybe the minor sports could fly an extra time, more training tools or whatever is deemed needed by the coaches. Maybe give Gretchen Torline a gift card for her work!
