  • Shocker Volleyball 101 Dinner - August 22, 2015

An annual event I not only very much look forward to but one that for me rings the bell on a new Shocker athletic year.

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

If you have never been to this event I think you would enjoy it.

Seems like every time I look at the Shocker roster I kind of scratch my head I wonder how Lambo does it. 23 players on the 2015 roster as it now stands.

That means we have almost as many walk-ons (11) as we have scholarship players (12) and it's not like the 11 walk-ons can't play. I guess it says a lot about the kind of program that Chris and Shannon Lamb have built that they can manage such a large roster with so very few problems especially in a sport that has limits on substitutions.

Lambo is really extending his recruiting reach as well. As far east as Williamsburg, VA and Wilmington, DE -- Northwest to Victoria, British Columbian and Dundee, Oregon -- South as far as Corpus Christi, Texas. OTOH he has 6 local players on the roster 3 of whom will be key players.

Come on out to the VB 101 dinner. I think you will enjoy meeting these young ladies and perhaps their parents as well.

Another successful and fun Volleyball 101 Dinner and Fundraiser is in the books.

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State volleyball program held its seventh annual Volleyball 101 Dinner on Aug. 22 in the Aetna Multipurpose Center.  The event featured a silent auction, live auction and a scrimmage.

My only complaint was that I thought the food could have been better especially the portions they were offering up. There seemed to be general agreement about that at our table. I think the food was provided by Gianni Bocci's Restaurant. I think the Fox & Hound had provided the food the last 6 years.

As far as the Volleyball team goes I was impressed by how much Lambo seems to really love this team in all facets (volleyball, academics, character, community support, etc.). I'm really glad this group gets a trip to Hawaii this year. Most impressive among Lambo's comments, however, was that he said this is the best defensive team he has ever had. The play during the scrimmage seemed to back that up.

My general impression of the scrimmage? This is a very deep Shocker team with a boat load of good volleyball players competing for playing time.

Really anxious to see how they do in Hawaii against very strong competition.

      Go Shocks!

I enjoyed the scrimmage as well. This IS a deep and talented team. Shimen Fayad is going to be a star. Great time as always.

        These girls rock.

Dinner at the Candle Club with the team last night thanks to the 101 auction. Shannon and Chris are special people and wonderful hosts. If you're a fan of WSU and don't attend one of these sometime, I feel sorry for you.

I bet I've lived within 10 minutes of the Candle most of my life and never set foot in there. I didn't know you could still smoke inside. Yikes.

1972 called and wants their asbestos back too.

Still, the service was excellent, the food simple but good and of course, the company outstanding.

I had been to the Candle Club a few times before but it has been at least 15 years (probably more) since the last time I was in there. I was surprised to find there had not seemed to be any updating since my last visit including and especially the smoking. The Candle Club as a venue for that event was not great, the food was okay but the company was great making it an enjoyable night.

However, I did not ask for any asbestos back.
