  • Shocker Kids Night vs UNI - Friday, Oct 3rd

This is a pretty good deal.

8th Graders and lower get in free. Adults $5.00 with coupon attached to press release linked above.

Are we looking at a crowd of 5,000 plus that night?

I'm trying to found out if the Kid's Zone with inflatables will be set up in the PHC Multi-Purpose facility.

FYI, Kapaun football is playing at Carpenter Stadium that night.

Grr....it would seem likely, perhaps extremely likely that Friday night attendance will be depressed due to high school activity.

Kids Night but no Kids Zone in PHS multipurpose gym. Still should be a very competitive and entertaining VB match with UNI.

I don't really like that I can't give away my tickets without planning ahead...I can't go tomorrow (sadly) but I will be there Saturday.

Please bring home a win @1972Shocker:, if you can.

@WuDrWu: I thought you could call the ticket office and tell them you can't make it and they will arrange from tickets to be picked up by your designated party at the Will Call window.

My plan is to bring home a victory and I will take full responsibility for any loss. But I would expect all of the credit for any win as well. I am that important. :wink-new:

I was out-of-town the ISUs weekend, so I gave away my tickets the new way - called the ticket office and told them who would be using my tickets. I spoke with the Friday night users, and they said the ticket office was clueless - no record of the fact that I would not be using my tickets and who would be using them instead. The ticket office gave them tickets anyway, but still. I have not had a chance to speak with the Saturday night users - maybe the ticket office had their act together by then.

SASO ice cream social is going on as well tomorrow night. That's probably why there would be no Kid Zone.

The match tomorrow night is a big one for obvious reasons, but most importantly, we need to reverse the jinx/bad karma with UNI, who has won 12 consecutive sets/games in Wichita. In 2010, WSU won the first set and then UNI took the next three. Since then, UNI has always won 3-0 here. WSU has actually won the last two matches that did not take place in Wichita (2012 MVC in Springfield and last year in Cedar Falls), but UNI definitely has had the upper hand in the 316 lately. That has to stop.

A large and loud crowd is one way we can help with that.

That is certainly helpful. With the SASO event, there should be a good-sized crowd there.

That said, it comes down to the girls playing well. I remember two years ago, a big effort was made to set the match attendance record. It might have fallen a bit short, but there was still a great crowd. My in-laws heard about the highly-anticipated match and expressed interest in attending. When it came to the match, the girls were absolutely flat and did not play well, losing each set by a worse margin. I almost felt embarrassed and angry towards the girls and figured that my in-laws would probably not want to come back to another match (oddly enough, they did come back....to the Illinois State match a couple weeks ago...deja vu). Now, MBB is a different animal, but it almost would have been like if the last Creighton home game had gone really bad...big deal was made of it, BLACKOUT, ESPN2, big rival who was nationally-ranked, ridiculous ticket demand...only to have the good guys lose by 25. In a smaller scale, that's how bad that match in 2012 was.

All we can control as fans is to be loud, supportive, and many in number...but the girls HAVE to play well or the fans won't be able to get into it.

So can we count on you to keep your in-laws out on Friday.

How dare I suggest we have a large crowd? I don't want to make people mad and have probs with in laws. What was I thinking?

                            Shocker Match Notes.

Interestingly, this says $5.00 group tickets for USD259. The original announcement stated free admission for Wichita area kids 8th grade and below. Nothing about USD259.

Good luck if they try to enforce that restriction.

The email I got today and the ticket I printed out says 8th grade and under with no stipulation about USD 259.
