  • OFFICIAL Match Thread: INS @ WSU 7 PM 09/20/2014

Perhaps there were some home opener jitters last night, and the Shocker squad will come out ready to play tonight. Many of these players are newcomers so let's show them what it means to be a Shocker by having a big turnout tonight and showing them the support they have from ShockerNation. I love this quote:

“We’re never going to lose here again, so you can put that in the paper,” Reilly said.

    Let's support this team!

    Lots of great promotions tonight:

    September 20
Free Popcorn - Complimentary popcorn to all fans in attendance
Rotek T-Shirt Giveaway - First 2,000 fans receive a FREE Shocker Volleyball T-shirt courtesy of Rotek Services
Schedule Giveaway & Autographs - All fans receive a FREE poster schedule and key tag; entire team will sign postgame autographs
Camper Reunion - Shocker Volleyball campers receive FREE admission when they wear their camp T-shirt
Shocker Maniacs Party - Wichita State students that attend the pregame party receive a FREE T-shirt

If you like autographs you better get them from volleyball. You aren't going to get them from basketball.

Missouri State needed 5 to get the Trees last night. Indiana State is no longer a "bye" for the Shocks. A good crowd last night was no doubt disappointed at the result but I hope an even better crowd (no hs football) will be there tonight. Our girls need and deserve the support.

Most likely will have men's basketball recruits at the match tonight. Another reason to have a good showing by ShockerNation.

          Around the Valley last night:

Bradley loses in four at Drake (Bradley is threatening to put up an 0-fer this season) 25-20, 25-17, 16-25, 25-22

UNI swept Loyola in Cedar Falls 25-18, 25-15, 25-23

          Missouri State beats Indiana State 21-25, 25-16, 25-19, 22-25, 15-4

SIU holds serve at home against Evansville 25-9, 25-22, 17-25, 25-20

It's early, but the pecking order to me seems to be UNI, ISU (sizable drop then) WSU, MSU, ISUB (mild gap) SIU (gap) Evansville, Loyola, Drake (huge chasm) Bradley.

I believe Drake's win was their first MVC win since early November of 2012, breaking a 20-match conference losing streak.

I have a feeling that this might be one of those years where everyone ends up with a few conference losses, without a clear frontrunner. Unless ILS continues to have success. SIU could make some noise too (perhaps not a frontrunner, but could end up in the top half and pull off some "upsets")

My son and I are heading in for the match tonight. This might be the only one we make it to this season.

What a difference a day makes! Whereas we could find no scoring outside of Katie on Friday, tonight we had a very nice balanced offensive attack. Emily and Kristin both had 6 kills, Mikaela and Masher each contributed 8 kills, and Abbie lead the way with 10 as the Shocks swept the Sycamores 16, 19 and 20 and, in fact, the 3rd set was the least competitive of the 3 sets as the Lambo went to mostly backups with the Shocks leading 21-13.

I will say that Indiana State does look improved over recent year's versions of the Sycamores.

Have not heard anything on Ashlyn's staus.

Very, very nice crowd of 3,248.

Parking situation was also handled well.

Is it just me or are the loudspeakers in Koch Arena tuned much better than in the past. Seems like a can understand the PA announcer much better than in the past.

As bad as last night was, tonight was very enjoyable and showed the promise this young team has.

My daughter wanted autographs so we stood in the long line. Ashlyn said that she hurt her knee by coming down in an awkward position. She said her knee is a little sore, but it will be ok.

                    Attendance tonight was 3248.

Shockers played much better volleyball tonight.

That was the best 3248 crowd I've ever seen. I guessed it was at least 3500. And it was LOUD. Winning helps.

WSU served well. Not many aces but few errors and forced a bunch of bad passes.

ISU doesn't have the terminators that Illinois State had last night and they made a bunch of mistakes to give WSU points.

Raudsepp was much better tonight. Emily Heibert was very good and is going to be a superstar.

Main rotation...Raudsepp (FR), Shelton (FR) Heibert (FR) Lehman (FR) Mostrom (FR)....whether Lambo wants to say it or not, we're insanely young.

Anthem was pretty special...how old was that girl? 6? 7?

I'm with @1972Shocker:.....the sound is excellent. The pregame intro video is as good as I've seen. Everything so far is a strong A, except the horn...what's up with that?

                        Around the Valley:

                        UNI beats Bradley in 4 25-15, 27-25, 24-26, 25-13

Illinois State asserts early dominance by sweeping WSU and MSU....I bet that hasn't happened very often in the last 15 years in the Valley 25-24, 25-16, 25-20.

                        Loyola beats Drake in a marathon in Des Moines 18-25, 25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 15-13.

SIU and Evansville played last night and are traveling partners so they just played 1 match this weekend.

The soft salted pretzels by the way are OUTSTANDING.

Referring one more time back to our youth, while yes, they have every right to get better, imho the ceiling is a little low without girls that can put the ball down. I think Abbie Lehman will be a very, very good middle but she needs to get stronger. Mikaela could be great. Who else can score? We need scorers to be great, and I don't see enough of them this season.

The intro video is really good. The little girl singing the national anthem was also really good. Definitely more energy in the bldg tonight, both on the floor and the fans. Sound system is better. I like Ted the sports head on the PA.

I agree that the intro video is very good. Very creative. It looks like there has been a positive learning curve with the new scoreboard.
