National Seeds Eliminated In Round 1: None
National Seeds Eliminated In Round 2:
Purdue def. #4 Missouri 3-1
Florida State def. #5 Florida 3-2
BYU def. #11 Hawaii 3-0 (21,17 and 13 a surprising beat down of the Wahine in Honolulu)
Michigan State def. #15 Kentucky 3-1
American def. #16 Duke 3-0 (American also swept Georgia to reach the sub-regional finals)
As usual the SEC appears to be overvalued in Volleyball. A clear BCS bias carryover from other sports perhaps (or simply too much influence with the NCAA). The SEC got 9 teams into the tournament, including 3 of the Top 16 seeds (each of whom hosted). They managed to win 5 and lose 9 and have no teams left in the tournament. The committee needs to take a long hard look at their selection process.Last edited by 1972Shocker; December 9, 2013, 06:30 PM.

The B1G was a beneficiary of matchups with the SEC as they advanced 2 unseeded teams (Purdue and Michigan State) at the expense of their seeded SEC hosts.
I will give the B1G credit. The received 8 bids (5 national seeds) and 7 of the teams advanced as they put up a record of 14-1 in Rounds 1 and 2.

The Big 12 received a much more reasonable 4 bids going 5-2 with their 2 national seeds/hosts, #1 Texas and #14 Kansas, advancing with KU surviving a very competitive sub-regional. KU advances to play #3 Washington so their stay may not last much longer. We will see if Texas can live up to its seed although I think #2 Penn State and #3 Washington have probably faced much tougher competition during the year. #4 Missouri left town on the broken-down SEC train.

The West Coast Conference did well advancing both of their teams #9 San Diego and BYU.
The make up of the Sweet 16 is:
B1G: 7 teams including #2, #8, #10, #12 and #13 seeds
PAC12: 3 teams including the #3, #6 and #7 seeds
BIG12: 2 teams including the #1 and #14 seeds
WCC: 2 teams including the #9 seed
ACC: Unseeded Florida State
PATRIOT: Unseeded American University

KU swept by #3 Washington 18, 13 and 24 in the Sweet 16.
Teams reaching the Final 4 are:
#1 Texas who swept #8 Nebraska who will play #12 Wisconsin who reached the Final Four without having to play another seeded opponent.
#3 Washington will take on #2 Penn State in the other semi-final. This one should be quite a battle.
