  • 2013 Volleyball Pre-Season Talk and Pub

Paul Suellentrop starts off with a nice article focusing on Jordan Hinkle and the littles.

However, I am surprised that Paul misreported that we lost to Texas last year in the NCAA Tournament. We were, of course, eliminated by USC. Good thing it's the pre-season or we might be forced to bench Paul.

We did play Texas in a match this spring, in which Lambo was impressed by Jordan's play. I attended the Nebraska match this spring in Koch Arena and I was very impressed with Jordan as well (not that what I think is going to make any difference). Of course, Lambo is not exactly handing over the reins to the Libero position just yet. Jordon will have to get that the old fashioned way. She will have to earn it.

Brief interview of Lambo, Chelsey and Elizabeth at today's 1st practice. (Click on VB: First Day of Practice on the rights side of the page under Shocker Vision Video)

We are so, so lucky to have this man leading our Volleyball program.

I'm becoming even more bullish on the team's prospects this fall.

As always, injuries will be a factor, but there is a lot of depth on this team. They are beginning to mirror the mens team in that regard. Competition is fierce at many positions.

While I do think Lambo will roll out his talented seniors plus Katie Riley and Jordan Hinkle to start things off, don't be surprised to see a number of youngsters command court time.

You know that Mash, Driskill and Gaby will contribute. But do not be surprised to see Dudzinski, Roddy and especially Dani Mostrom on the court a significant amount of time this fall. Especially if you think (as I do) that Lambo is going to want to keep his big guns healthy late into the season. I know personally that in past seasons I've wondered why we haven't "cleared the bench" more often in matches we have well in hand. The rules of volleyball don't allow for the free substitutions that you get with basketball, for instance. But this season, the drop off isn't going to be as pronounced as in previous years.

The one massive concern is Feekin. She must stay healthy or we'll have to burn Hiebert's redshirt.

Probably takes a Shocker fan to understand that Doc was comparing them to the men's basketball team. I knew immediately that's what he was referring to.

there's only one mens team on campus? I mean, I know y'all don't have football, but I'd think you could manage some other sport besides basketball for the guys. ;op

There's only one men's team that matters. Although some of the baseball fans might dispute that. :)
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
              RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

Why am I not surprised we have to explain things to a Panther fan?

                I kid because I care.

Back on topic, I am concerned that our non con is full of pitfalls without much bump.

Arizona State is picked 6th in the PAC12 and Tennessee is 5th in the SEC east....VCU has a new coach coming off a big year last year but are behind Dayton (at least) in the A10.

I'm kind of getting the feeling we better be 12-0 when the Rainbow Wahine take the court at CKA on 9/21. There doesn't seem a lot of room for error from my vantage point.

Jeff Sanders mentioned last night during the VB101 sessions that all 5 of this year's freshmen will probably redshirt, although Alyssa Carney (Washburn Rural) is playing very well in practice and she could earn her way into playing time this year.

I think @WuDrWu: has previously reported this is what he was hearing /seeing also.

The Lady Shocks picked to win the MVC regular season title in the Coaches' preseason poll.

                    Let's make it so Ladies.

Shocks received 8 out of 10 1st place votes with Missouri State receiving the other 2 although they ended 3rd in the polling just 1 point behind UNI. I'm expecting a very competitive and tight race again even with Creighton moving on. Can not avoid to slip up against the rest of the league.

Chelsey Feekin and Elizabeth Field selected to the preseason All-Conference team. I'm surprised she was picked over fellow Shocker Ashley Andrade (which is a good sign for the Shocks).

I just received an e-mail from Shannon Lamb that she and Lambo are coming to the Alumni Association's "We're Not Back to School Bash" this Saturday since it doesn't conflict with the VB101 like it did last year. Come on out and say "hello" and wish them luck prior to getting the season underway!

Improving her jump serve? I know she wasn't consistent, but when she was in rhythm it was a thing of beauty. That will be a good scoring addition for the Shocks.

Stuck in the middle with you. Sully with a final pre-season roundup give the Shocker senior middles, Elizabeth Field and Ashley Andrade, some pub.

It will be interesting to see if these two gals can pick up where they left off at the end of last year.

Agree with you 72 lets see the senior middles pick up the mo from last year. Appears the pins will be the questions this year? healthy? consistent? Who and where? This year will be the year of the setter and middles. Back row just will be a rolling target all year. This is when Lamo experiments with the ladies - lets see what happens!
                              GO SHOX!
