Go Shockers - Stout Selected in Pro Volleyball Federation Draft
I wasn't aware of this league before this release. But props to Morgan on being drafted!
Wichita State redshirt senior middle blocker Morgan Stout was selected by the Vegas Thrill with the 25th overall pick of the Pro Volleyball Federation 2024 Draft on Monday. Stout is the first Wichita State player to be drafted in the PVF and the only player from the American Athletic Conference to be selected.
The Pro Volleyball Federation is a professional indoor volleyball league that completed its first season in 2024. The league features eight teams: Atlanta Vibe, Columbus Fury, Grand Rapids Rise, Indy Ignite, Omaha Supernovas, Orlando Valkyries, San Diego Mojo and Vegas Thrill. Stout was the first pick of the fourth round and the seventh middle blocker drafted.
Stout was named the Most Outstanding Player of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday after leading the Shockers to three straight sweeps on the way to the title. Over the course of the tournament, Stout averaged 4.67 points per set, hitting .345 with a team-high 35 kills. She also led the Shockers with eight block assists and added three aces, including the match-winning ace in Wichita State's quarterfinal victory over Tulsa. All told, Stout totaled 42 points in the tournament while reaching double-digit kills in all three matches.
The native of Fowler, Kansas is putting together a banner season in her final campaign with the Shockers. She was tabbed First Team All-American Athletic Conference last week, leading all middle blockers nationally in kills per set (3.16) and second at the position in points per set (3.96) hitting a team-best .319 in the process. Her performance in conference play was even more impressive, as Stout averaged 3.46 kills per set and 4.38 points per set at a .343 hitting percentage. Over the final nine matches of the regular season, Stout recorded 13 kills or more in every match and had outings of 20 (2x), 22, and 23 terminations, establishing a new career high in the final regular season match against UTSA. She was named to the NCAA Volleyball Rotation of the Week after racking up consecutive kills-blocks double-doubles against Memphis and UAB, earning the first of two American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week Awards.
Stout has also developed into a legitimate weapon from the service line, firing 30 aces after totaling 14 in her first three seasons combined. In addition to her offensive prowess, the redshirt senior is averaging 0.99 blocks per set with a career-best 14 solo blocks and 109 block assists and has even set new career highs in both digs (107) and digs per set (0.86).
Stout and the Shockers will learn their postseason destination at next week's NCAA Volleyball Selection Show, scheduled for Sunday, December 1 at 5:00 pm CT on ESPN. The first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament take place Thursday, December 5 through Saturday, December 7.
