Following on live stats today. Shocks took the 1st set 25-21 but neither team was scoring well.

The Shocks got next to nothing from Gonzo, Brooklyn and Emerson. That needs to change.

Tizi hurt for USF? She’s limping, not sure when it happened?

Also #21 Swatell (sp) seems to be hurt again.

In set 2, USF jumped out to a 9-5 lead but a 5-point Shocker run made it 10-9 and it was nip and tuck the rest of the way. At 24-all a Gonzo kill and a Sawtell attack error finished it off for a 2-0 Shocker lead.it

In set 3 the Shocks never trailed until USF rallied for a 19-18 lead. A 7-3 run by the Shocks closed out their 2nd consecutive sweep.

Shocks doing a really good job closing out sets so far in the tournament.

A USF fan told me her ankle was hurt again. She played sparingly in the third set.

This will be a challenging match for the Shockers tomorrow. FAU is a feisty team (they were down 0-2 to Rice). #6 (Robine) and #7 (Rosado) carried the offensive load in the first two matches. The pair had 74 of the 116 kills for FAU. Their .232 against East Carolina is the only hitting percentage above .200 for any team during the weekend.

I think Rice will make the NCAA as an at-large. South Florida hopes are gone.

Others can chime in here, but I thought our back-row play was better than normal. They dug some hard shots. Or maybe I forgot the ones they did not dig. :)

Yesterday, it was Morgan and Alyssa and little else. Today, Maddie was clearly part of the plan. A match-up that Lambo liked? She and Izzi had some line-drive sets with mixed results. Morgan and Izzi did well. Emerson and Brooklyn were serviceable; Alyssa hit .000 with 33 swings, the most on the team. Andrade for the Bulls was .108. USF hit a season-low of .112.

                      Pure sidenote -

It has been years, perhaps decades, since I have seen a foot fault on a serve. This tournament has had three called!

First match I have seen where WSU started on the "visitors" side and, I assume, used the visitors locker room.

That was a good win. Had a few timing issues and hit a few way, way out of bounds, but for the most part played well. The hiccups didn't keep the Shockers from moving forward.

Even though I doubt USF will make the NCAA cut, it would be nice if they did make it and the AAC sends 3 teams to the NCAA tournament.

This year we beat FAU in five at home. Last year we lost to them in five at their place. Not going to be an easy match. Glad we have them at home. Hope the defense shows up big. FAU has played ten sets in the past two days, the Shockers have played six. Hopefully being a little fresher will pay off tomorrow. When in doubt, set Stout. She'll get it done.

The interviewed Gonzo after the match on Friday. Today they interviewed both Maddie and Swifty post game.

I noticed that too, and I think there were a couple that were not called. Several players for Rice (I think) that stepped really, really close to the line when they served.

USF won't, and the geeks on VT have doubts that Rice will. It may be close and depend on the AQs of other conferences.
