  • Shocker VB at North Texas

The Shockers begin the closing weekend of the AAC regular season conference schedule with a trip to Denton to play North Texas. The Mean Green are 5-9 in the AAC with a win over Tulsa being their only win over a .500+ team. Since that win, they have lost seven consecutive matches.

The Shocks are in third place in the AAC standings with a 12-4 mark.

    Prognosticians are 70% and 3-1.

      Volleyball Preview: North Texas

      Friday, Nov. 15 (5:00 p.m. CT) at North Texas (8-17, 5-9 American)
      Denton, Texas (UNT Volleyball Center)
      Live Stats // Watch

      SCOUTING THE MEAN GREEN:
      • The Mean Green need to win their final two matches of the regular season to have a chance at reaching the conference tournament; after Wichita State, North Texas hosts conference co-leader Rice on Sunday.
      • The Mean Green have lost seven consecutive matches heading into Friday, including losses to Florida Atlantic and Temple this past weekend.
      • North Texas boasts a fearsome block, averaging 2.25 rejections per set for the second-best mark in the conference. 6-2 Freshman MB Ryann Vik leads the way with 1.08 blocks per set. Vik produced 13 block assists against South Florida on October 25.
      • Veteran hitters 5-9 Sr OH Aryn Johnson (2.90 k/s), 6-3 Jr. Payton Van Veen (2.66 k/s) and 5-11 Sr OH Coco Gillett (2.51 k/S)spearhead the North Texas attack.
      • In conference play North Texas is hitting .225 and its opponents are hitting .203 with North Texas averaging 16.5 points per set.
      • Former Shocker setter Lauren Wheeler is on the roster for North Texas after spending two seasons with Wichita State.

After looking over the North Texas stats I get the sense they are a better team than what their record reflects (I know you are what your record says you are). In any case, the Shocks need to avoid a lackadaisical performance tonight.

Disappointed that the Shocks could not carry the momentum from the 25-13 win in the 4th set over to the 5th set.

Looking at the game on paper, one would assume that we won. 4 players with double digit kills, 15 blocks and hitting .370. Nice stats. NT must have really played well. Their 10 aces really hurt.

I'll take those stats any match. Hope we play that well going into the tourney, except for the 5th set.

North Texas certainly has some good fire power on offense. Not too impressed with their defense. Perhaps that had something to do with the Shocks strong offensive numbers. I didn't think the Shocks littles played their best. The passing wasn't as good as it has been. And Katie, while she had 18 digs, a few of which were outstanding also had 4 service reception errors. Credit for at least some of that to North Texas. I wasn't all that thrilled to see Emerson in the 6-rotation role again. She was okay on her front row rotations but is weak link on the back row.

I really don't care at all for watching college volleyball in that airplane hanger.
