    Other Sunday Matches

    Rice 3-0 UTSA

    East Carolina 3-0 UAB

    North Texas 1-3 Memphis

    Temple 0-3 Florida Atlantic

    Charlotte 3-2 Tulane

Rice and South Florida have two losses. The Shockers and East Carolina have three losses.

Rice has only the Shockers with a winning AAC record remaining on their schedule. South Florida has only East Carolina with a winning AAC record on their schedule. Rice hosts; USF does not.

Had to be Sarah’s best block number, certainly at WSU.

      Weird match in some ways.

The win clinches a top 8 finish. There is one and only 1 scenario that allows for a 5 way tie @9-7 but WSU can’t finish last in the tie break. There’s also a few options that allow for 6 way tie at 9-7 but that would include Tulsa giving WSU a bigger tie breaker advantage.

Weird season in some ways. Apparently, we will just have to live with that.

Swifty might be offensive player of the week, but will probably get an honorable mention.

          Swifty went 36 10 77 .338. Brooklyn went 33 14 72 .263.
Memphis's Hannah Jones went 36 8 80 .375, which will probably get the nod, but Swifty had 12 total blocks, Jones had 5.

Katie has to get defensive player of the week. 48 Digs for an awesome 6 digs/set!

Whose fantastic dig and save was better:

Tulsa's Marta Pecalli's one-handed save of a high fly ball into the tunnel entrance with the scored tied at 20-all in the 3rd set that allowed Tulsa to keep the point alive and to ultimately win that point and that set.

            or

Katie Galligan's diving save of a low rocket of the arm of Tulsa's excellent middle Tytiana Johnson in the 4th set. Katie's dig was also a line drive that fell in by a couple of feet behind the Tulsa defense to put the Shocks up 9-7.

I'm biased but my vote goes to Katie. Both libero's were terrific in this weekend's matches. Arguably, Katie, in her first 2 matches as the libero this season, outplayed Pecalli, who most consider the best libero in the AAC. In the two matches combined Pecalli had 32 digs, 11 assists, 0 service aces, 5 service errors, 1 reception error, and 0 kills. Katie had 48 digs, 8 assists, 1 service ace, 1 service error, 1 reception error, and 1 kill. Both passed the ball very well.

Even Reagan Anderson seems to be responding well and playing better since this switch to Katie as the libero as she contributed 12 digs, solid passing, 7 assists, 4 service aces (all in Sunday's match), no service errors and only 1 reception error.

It's only been 2 matches against the same opponent but let's hope this continues.

I will be a bit disappointed if Katie doesn't get the AAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for this week.

Hard to believe that Brooklyn Leggett could not find much playing time at D2 Colorado-Mesa.

Lambo has said since early in the season that he thought the Shocks would have to produce 17.5 to 18 points per set to have a chance to win the AAC. Points being kills + service aces + blocks.

Coming into this weekends Tulsa matches the Shockers were averaging 15.6 points per set overall and 16.5 points per set in AAC matches.

Against Tulsa the Shockers averaged 19.3 points per set over the 8 sets played.

It will be interesting to see if they can keep that at around 18 points per set in next weekends matches at Rice and at Tulane.

The Offensive Player of the Week is Morgan, and Katie is the Defensive Player of the Week.
