  • Wichita State vs Creighton - Friday, 11/16

Tonight is a great opportunity to see if the "I Hate/Dislike Creighton" attitude is a commonly held feeling among Shocker fans or is simply message board talk by a small slice of the fan base.

Shocks drew a very nice crowd of 3,825 for the MSU match last Friday. That crowd was also one of the more energetic and vocal crowds we've enjoyed for a WSU VB match. Would be great if we cold match that crowd in size and intensity for the BlueJays tonight.

The #23 ranked BlueJays, with only one MVC loss, have clinched a tie for the regular season Championship and have the #1 seed in the MVC Tournament locked up. The Shocks are pretty much locked into 3rd place and the #3 seed. So there the match doesn't mean a whole lot as far as the conference goes. However, a win would go a long, long way towards a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the Shocks if it comes to that (which it probably will). However, none of this should make any difference to those who just can't stand Creighton. I trust those folks will be in attendance regardless of the importance of the match.

Sounds like Sam Sanders may play tonight but that will be a match time decision again and how effective she can be after missing a couple of weeks of practice is an unknown. My guess is we will see Katie Reilly in the starting lineup again.

This will be tough one. Creighton, lead by probably MVC POY Meaghan Bober at the setter position, is a very good volleyball team this year. They are a physical team that plays very clean volleyball. It will not be an easy chore for the Shocks to pull off the upset, but it is not an impossible task either.

    Go Shocks!

I don't hold out high hopes for a big crowd, but wild horses couldn't keep this Shocker fan from this weekend's matches. CU is really good, but a supreme effort, and hopefully a healthy Samders, would go a long way into a possible upset of the Jays.

    Go Shocks!

I have a little hope for a good crowd tonight. It is Creighton, they are ranked and the Shocks are the underdogs. However, Shocker fans are certainly full this week and weekend.

Now the Drake match may not draw much despite it being Senior night. We have the big match with Creighton tonight, we have Shocker men's basketball tomorrow afternoon (even if that is a glorified exhibition game) and we have Shocker Women's basketball Sunday. Perhaps even more significant is that the Drake match is going head to head with the K-State at Baylor football game. Thank goodness for DVR's. Makes watching the football game later much less time consuming anyway.

I'll be attending volleyball tonight, basketball tomorrow afternoon and volleyball tomorrow night. I'm planning to sleep all day on Sunday. ;)

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Same here except I will also try to follow Aliphine's attempt to win a Natiional XC Championship tomorrow and I will be attending the women's basketball game on Sunday.

#1 highlight for me would be for Aliphine to bring home a National Championship. A close 2nd, no make that a tie with an Aliphine win, would be for the Lady Shocks to knock of Creighton tonight.

          Go Shocks!

                CU takes fourth set 25-20.

Gotta find a way to stem the momentum in the fifth.

Katie putting the team on her shoulders, Shocks up 5-2 timeout CU!

We lose a heartbreaker 16-14 in the 5th, even had a matchpoint opportunity.

The ladies looked great in sets 1, 2 and 5, but CU was just fractionally better.

Lambo was beside himself in the postgame, could hardly say anything. At the end, Emily wouldn't hit the ball. Twice late in the fifth set, she had good sets, chances to swing against a single blocker from the right side and just tipped the ball. He hated to put it on her shoulders, but ... . Mike has done enough postgames over the years, that he knew to cut this one real short.

Beyond that, I thought we played pretty much as well as we can play in the first two sets.

Seems like Emily has lost some of her confidence and swagger this year. No doubt teams have targeted her all season and it has probably worn her down a little.

Creighton is a better volleyball team than the Shocks. Overall they are more athletic than the Shocks and they have the two best players in the MVC in Megan Bober and Kelli Browning. That said the Shocks should have won this match.

I agree that they played about as well as they can play the first two sets. Creighton adjusted during halftime and blocked the hell out of the ball in Set 3 to establish who the dominant team really was.

Shocks were in good shape in the 5th set leading 11-7, but they simply were not aggressive enough to close it out. However, the Shocks played hard and I think they gave it everything they had.

I am one very disappointed Shocker fan tonight.:crushed:

Creighton really picked up their serving in the 3rd set and it took most of the next 2 sets to adjust. Why it took that long I'll never know.

I feel horrible for Emily. It's just not there for her right now. Katie was spectacular. Sam shouldn't have played imho.

Jackie was spectacular and has left it all on the floor her senior year.

If they could have won any of about 5 points in the 5th set they would have closed it out. CU is just tougher than we are.

It's horrible to think, but we may be 2 points at home between being a #3 seed at a Kansas State regional in Manhattan and staying home for the rest of the year.

I am one very sad Shocker fan tonight. Very sad.
