Grace Hett looks the part and can really serve for a little.

Wasn't able to watch (I'll catch the replay this evening) and really wasn't able to follow the live stats very closely. Was clutching my pearls a bit after the 1st set but apparently some adjustments were made. Can't complain much about the offensive numbers but then again this was KSU - Georgia and not KSU - Kansas.
A team kill percentage of 50% and an error rate of 6.4% is crazy efficient. That my prove to easily be a season best.
We'll learn a lot more about where the Shocks are tomorrow. Not expecting a win but hope they can be at least somewhat competitive against the Hoosiers. Certainly, won't repeat those offensive stats against Indiana.Last edited by 1972Shocker; August 30, 2024, 01:58 PM.

As an aside, Camdyn Stucky from Maize South, a true freshman, is the starting setter for the #15 Vols against #7 Penn State. This match is on the U, but their Sunday match against #6 Louisville is on ESPN2 at 3 pm CT.
Well, LiveStats says she will start, but the match has not started yet either.
EDIT: Nope. Looks like they just listed the first seven players on the roster. But, hey, a Wichita kid whose program will go to the NCAAs every year - very nice on her part to be recruited by them.Last edited by flyingMoose; August 30, 2024, 07:00 PM.

Didn't get to watch the game, but followed along on Statbroadcast. Nice win. Faced some adversity, lost 1st set and trailed in set 4, but bounced back.
Hitting .522 (13 1 23) and having only 1 error, you would think that team would have won that set. Looks like the Shockers got out defensed in that 1st set. Held them to .533 hitting.
The 2nd set attacking numbers were very similar (14 0 24 .583). The difference- 1 ace, 4 blocks, and KSU's 7 hitting errors. Held KSU to .189.
Got 15 kills in set 3, also racked up 5 attacking errors. 4 of those 5 errors came from 4 KSU blocks (their total for the match). Hit a season low .303, held KSU to .147.
Hit .400 (13 1 30) in set 4, just a few more attempts than set 1. Grace Hett started her colligate career stats with an Ace, for a total of 2 aces in her first five serves. Held KSU to .194.
Looks like the defense showed up after the first set. Had 7 digs the 1st set, 2nd- 10, 3rd- 17, 4th- 15. Had no blocks the 1st set, 2nd- 4, 3rd- 2, 4th- 3. Emerson and Morgan both has solo blocks. Morgan had 5 BA, Izzi - 4, Sarah- 2, and Alyssa, Brooklyn, and Emerson all had 1 BA. I wonder if KSU playing a 5-2 threw a little curveball at the Shocks and it took them a minute to adjust to it. We had a 67.9 side out percentage for the match.
Izzi has to have a pretty good assist percentage. Don't know what it is because they don't have those numbers recorded in the stats. It has to be over .400. Emerson (4) and Morgan (1) combined for 5 assists. Littles Annalie (3) and Katie (1) combined for 4 assists. Usually the libero has the second most assists on a team. I wonder if this will change this year. Gonna keep an eye on this to see if it becomes a trend.
Had 6 aces to 7 service errors. Grace had 2 aces. Emerson, Katie, Morgan, and Reagan all had aces.
Emerson had 4 reception errors. Since they don't give the total serve reception stats, I don't know how much they served at her. I'm guessing she had more than she did against K-state simply because they played 4 sets. At 3.75 kills per set, she had a busy night.
The pin hitters only had 2 attacking errors. Two. For the whole 4 set match. I don't remember that ever happening in even three set matches. Hope we can play that clean against Indiana.
Too bad we can let Grace serve all the time.

The Shocks hit .436 against KSU while Indiana hit .420 vs KSU.
Watched a replay of the Shockers match. Thought the Shocks were much better than they were against K-State although K-State is a much better team overall. I was particularly glad to see our attackers taking much more aggressive swings overall than what they showed against K-State. All-in-all a decent season opener on the road against a KSU-Georgia team that was better than I thought they would be. I'd take Manu Johnsen and Olivia Burrage in a heart beat. 2 very athletic players.
I thought the KSU-Georgia announcing team was pretty solid, especially the color commentator and they had done a pretty good job of researching the Shocks in advance.Last edited by 1972Shocker; August 30, 2024, 10:56 PM.

Emerson, Alyssa, Brooklyn or whoever is on the left side is going to have a heck of a time with IU's opposite, Avry Tatum. She was on fire against KSU, going 16 2 18 for .778. She scored Indiana's first points in all three sets. She transferred to IU from Cincy after her freshman year in 2022.

Match Two v Indiana
Set One
No data yet at 1005. Or 1010.
Okay, the LiveStats link on the Indiana site works.
Starters are Brooklyn, Reagan, Sarah, Annalie, Emerson, Morgan, and Izzi. Katie and Alyssa are early subs in the rotation.
From 5-6, the Shocks go crazy. Four in a row, sideout, five in a row. Indiana had a TO in there. 17-8 before the Hoosiers get going again.
18-13 moves to 24-13.
25-14.
455 v .000! Four kills for Brooklyn and Alyssa. Three blocks v one.

Shocks clearly playing well and/or Indiana off their game a bit early. 22-13 Shocks, hitting over .400
25-14 Shocks hit .455 with Alyssa and Brooklyn combining for 8 kills on 9 swings. That'll work.
Obviously I am not seeing the action, but I watched Indiana handle KSU-Georgia fairly easily last night. And I watched some of last year's team. They're good, period. Elite at setter and L. That's one heck of set 1 for WSU.

Set Two
Indiana wanders off to an early 3-7 lead.
Three of the first seven Shocker points are on service errors.
Shocks close the gap to 8-10. Long delay; must be a challenge. Yep, overturned and now 7-11.
11-11 before the Hoosiers score again.
13-13, then 13-16 and Lambo takes a TO.
It worked. Another service error by IU. :)
But does not work for long. 14-20 after four in a row by Indiana and the Shocks use their last TO.
The set stays interesting. 17-20 and the Hoosiers take a TO.
18-25 and one set each.
.118 v .325 for the set. Tatum was 6-0-7 in the set for IU. Brooklyn has seven kills for the Shocks, and Morgan and Alyssa each have four.Last edited by flyingMoose; August 31, 2024, 11:01 AM.
