Lulu, I am assuming in the lead off spot homers in the Shocker 1st. 5-3 Jodie Epperson caps a 5-run 1st inning for the Shocks with a grand slam.

BTW, I like the white and gold uniform combination especially with the white shoes.

Home runs from Taylor Sedlacek and Caroline Tallent puts the Shocks up 7-3 after 5.

Freshman Morgan Lloyd then contributed a 2-run double.

Jodie Epperson seems to like those unis as well. Or maybe she just likes juco pitching.

I assume this was a 10-inning game and everyone got to play.

She has a really quick bat and a compact swing. Should help her when we face pitchers that bring the heat. The staff must’ve fixed some things already. I would bet she won’t hit .235 this year. On the other hand, she will have competition for playing time.

              Yes to both.

There were a few things to continue to work on, but HCKB is more than capable of correcting anything I saw. She was on them a few times. Teaching moments you know. I hope to get out and see a few more games this fall. They have raised my expectations quite a bit. They will be a completely different team offensively, but I think that will be really fun.
Agree and KU seems to be a notch down from last year. However, not discounting our weekend at all, as it was solid. While HCKB was experimenting last fall, the team didn’t have near the results that they had in past fall seasons.

Freshmen seem ready to battle for playing time. We shall see.

Last chance to see the Shockers this Fall on Saturday as they play a good D-2 team with some very good arms. I expect it could be a tussle.

For the first four innings, the SNU pitcher had our number. Once they started getting into their staff, the wheels fell off for them. 18-1 final. Pitching this fall has been fantastic.

Sounds like we need to “recruit” SNU’s pitcher. :)

Pitching will be the strong point of this team. Early on in the spring they will need it.

The pitching has been encouraging but I will withhold any judgment until we we get a couple weeks into our Spring schedule although I have very high hopes for Chloe.

Speaking of Chloe, looks like she got to swing the bat today:

Will we see more of that this Spring?

Caroline Tallent shows off her talent with Softball strength and conditioning coach Audrey Horn:

                            Nailed it Caroline.

RH: Podcast Wrapping Up Fall Shocker Baseball, Softball

                              Listen to the podcast

We wrap up fall practices for Wichita State softball and baseball. Associate head coach Elizabeth Economon discusses how middle infielders Taylor Sedlacek and Sami Hood are on the rise as juniors. We also talk newcomers in the outfield, freshman pitcher Ava Sliger and the return of Lauren Lucas.

Coach E had very positive things to say about softball strength and conditioning coach Audrey Horn.

Lauren Lucas seems to be feeling good.

Taylor Sedlacek is ready to break out. Looking for a great year from her.

Sami Hood has a great fall and her confidence is growing.

Caroline Tallent also having a good fall and has really upped her fitness and strength. The best she has ever seen her.

3 options at catchers. Kind of up in the air. So. Sophie Johnson, Fr. Gabby Scott and Fr. Kaitlyn Beckersly are battling for playing time behind the plate.

Ellie Eck offers a really unique perspective and fits right in. Same for Jody Epperson. Both have great speed and Jody is very strong for her size.

Freshman pitcher Ava Sliger. Very precise. Very confident. Very poised. Works very hard. Played a high level of club ball over the past couple of years. Hwe stuff is good.

Coach E is now the all-time leader among Shocker coaches for RoundHouse interviews. And it is easy to understand why. She is really good.
