  • Shocker SB v UTSA

The Shockers continue their conference schedule this weekend against UTSA. Games are on Friday at 6 pm, Saturday at 4 pm, and Sunday at noon. With weather concerns during those days, there may be a change to a DH on a particular day.

The Roadrunners have a 1-5 record in conference with an overall record of 9-21. In conference, they were swept by UAB but took one game from North Texas. Their non-conference record includes two runs-ahead losses to Kansas and a loss to UT Arlington.

The only OPS above .800 for UTSA belongs to Brenna Jahn at .856. Camryn Robillard has six home runs. The Roadrunners have used seven!! pitchers with most of the innings belonging to three of them. In order, Jamie Gilbert with an ERA of 4.26 and a WHIP of 1.55, Iliana Saucedo (4.09 and 1.53), and Kenzi Schultz (5.83 and 2.13).

Taylor's recent home runs have enabled her to join CC and Addison above 1.000 OPS: CC at 1.381 with six homers, Addie (1.216 and nine homers), and Taylor (1.057 and seven homers). Pitching stats are still a mess. Chloe, Alison, and Alex all have inning totals in the 40s with Lauren about half that. Chloe with an ERA of 3.60 and WHIP of 1.50 has the best numbers.

Shocks sent 5 batters to the plate in 1st and only 1 ball was put into play and that was a slow roller to short off the end of the end of the bat by Lainee for the 3rd out.

In the top of the 2nd Alex, after getting the lead off hitter gave up a sharply hit line drive single off of Krystin's glove at 3rd and a ringing double the left center field wall putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out but Alex got a strikeout and a weak grounder to short to escape.

Caroline and Sophie both popped out meekly to open the bottom off the 2nd but solid singles to left by Jess and Krystin put runners at 1st and 2nd and CC delivered Jess to the plate with ground ball single to center before Alex popped out to shallow right for the 3rd out.

A hard hit short over Caroline's head left short-hopped the 5th for a double. After a fly out to shallow left, a grounder to short resulted in an infield single, although I would have given Taylor an error on the low throw to first but the runner on 2nd, who Taylor had in no-woman's land, advancing to 3rd. A stolen base put runners on 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out again. A line drive ticketed for the left field corner was backhanded at the top of her reach by Krystin at 3rd saving 2 runs before

Lead off double for UTSA. One out infield single. Stolen base. 2nd and 3 rd one out again. Dang nice grab of a line drive by Kristen for out number 2. Then a strike out. Nothing across again.

1972Shocker does lots better than me!

The Shockers decide to build a snowman in the 3rd with the help of the weather. This was one strange inning.

Bailey snuck a ground ball single up the middle leading off. Taylor hit a high fly ball to left, perhaps not a good thing to do into this strong north wind, but with the wind no doubt moving that ball around the left field got their in plenty of time but it bounced of the heal of her glove for a 2-base error with Bailey going to 3rd.

Laine then hit a little duck snort looper that cleared the pitcher and landed around the 2nd base bag before being retrieved by the 2nd baseman who had no play, scoring Bailey and moving Taylor to 3rd.

Caroline followed with a line drive double over the right fielder's head on an 0-2 pitch scoring Taylor and moving Lainee to 3rd.

Sophie sharply hit a low liner that looked to be heading to left field but a very nice diving backhand catch by the UTSA shortstop gave the Roadrunners a bit 1st out.

Jess hit a soft liner to the left of short that ticked of the end of the shortstops glove scoring Laine and moving Caroline to 3rd. So runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out.

Krystin with a poor at bat was called out on strikes looking for out number 2 but CC more than bailed her out with a blast over the right center field fence for a home run.

After Addie walked Burbs hit a high fly to left center, not quite as hard hit as Taylor's was, but the left fielder had the same issue with the wind and muffed another catch for her 2nd 2-base error of the inning with Addie scoring from first base.

Taylor than lined what may have been the hardest hit ball oft the game so far to left center. This time the leftfielder kind of got turned around as my guess is that that ball was curling back to the left. She got her glove on it but could not make the catch. That was ruled a base hit and rightly so. The scored Burbs with the 8th run of the inning to finish off the snowman.

Krystin delivers the Shockers 10th run with a 2-out ground single to right driving in Caroline from 2nd giving Alex a 2-run cushion to try to close out a run-rule game in the top of the 5th.

Chloe give up her 1st hit of the game in the 4th on a well struck double to right. That runner went to 3rd on a wild pitch but Chloe's 6th K of the game ended the UTSA at bat.

A 4-spot in the 4th extends the Shocks lead to 8-0 and puts the run-rule into play.
