Elizabeth Field and Chelsey Feekin talk about the first day of volleyball practice.

For those not subscribed to the Shocker YouTube Channel, the first day of practice.

I'll miss 'Hoop forever, but I've been waiting for Chelsey to take over for 4 years and see what she can do (that's hard to believe!). I am looking for big things this year and she's going to surprise a bunch of teams taking a big sigh of relief that MEH has graduated.

Elizabeth Fields gets more impressive every day and she could be dominate this season.

Can't wait for the season to start!

We should be getting the MVC pre-season picks soon. Last year they were released on August 10th.

Here is how I think the league will be picked:

          1. Missouri State
          2. Nothern Iowa
          3. Wichita State
          4. Creighton
5 thru 10. None will be ready to challenge the Big 4 on a consistent basis.

I will say I don't think there is a whole lot to choose between these 4 teams. Assuming this is how it shakes out the Shocks are my pick to surprise on the upside.

Kind of tough to not put UNI in the No. 1 spot but replacing Bre Payton's contributions just seems to be an impossible task to me and Missouri State always has good athletes and they return a very good setter in Carly Thomas who lead the MVC in assists per set last year. Creighton also returns a very solid and experienced setter in Sr. Megan Bober.

All 4 teams lost a couple of very good players, but all return some very good players. I am expecting a tough, competitive MVC race among these 4 teams.

Here are my must see matches if you want to pick and chose which ones you will attend this year:

Thu. Aug 30 - Colorado State
          Fri. Aug 31 - BYU
          Sun. Sep 2 - Tennessee
Fri. Oct 26 - Northern Iowa
Fri. Nov 9 - Missouri State
          Fri. Nov 16 - Creighton

This would be a great 6-pack ticket offering to put together IMHO.

I purchased my inexpensive season tickets last week and I might make a couple of roadies (i.e. Oklahoma and Missouri State).

Note that the home matches with UNI, MSU and CU are all late in the season and these could set up to be very important for this team. It's too bad they are on Friday night because I think we could draw better crowds on Saturday, but it is what it is and these are the must see matches if you are a Shocker fan.

That home tourney is simply dynamite. UT returns everyone I think from the team that won the SEC tourney last season. They will be preseason Top 25 for sure. Colorado State will be looking for revenge from last season, and they'll be top 25 I suspect and BYU is a top 50 team, at least.

Let's face it folks, you don't get these kind of teams to Wichita very often. Lambo has put together a great schedule and we need to support the team. As usual, the girls are great to be around and a joy to watch so don't get left wondering what you missed.

            Go Shocks!

Arguably Shocker Volleyball has been the best entertainment value in the Shocker athletic program over the past 7 years considering a season ticket can be had for $65 (or $55 for ages 65+ and 12-) and considering the quality of the product Lambo has delivered.

The August 30th match with Colorado State will be a Wichita Eagle Family Night (4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 popcorns and 4 drinks for $32)

October 26th vs Northern Iowa is Jam the Gym night with all tickets $3.00. Plus first 1,000 fans receive a free Shocker Volleyball. Free T-Shirts for students sitting in the student section. Plus one of my personal favorite Shocker treats the Halloween costume contest.

BTW, past time the Shocker students to get behind this VB program in bigger numbers IMHO.

How about UNI's ticket promotion this year. A combo Volleyball and Women's Basketball season ticket for $20.

That's a total of 25 matches/games for $0.80 each. If that doesn't generate some interest nothing will, although it is not going to generate much revenue (at least this year).

And therein lies the answer to the question why we shouldn't be in the same league with UNI and why they should NEVER have been invited to join the MVC. With all their success, especially in volleyball.......$20 freaking dollars?

We're paying $40 to go to a preseason function, and I suspect there will be a couple hundred people there. $20...why even bother at that point?

I'm not defending UNI's membership in the MVC. But as to promotions like this and attendance, remember they are in a small state with two "major" universities and have a relatively small population base to pull from. They could let people in for free and still not draw the big crowds. Waterloo-Cedar Falls has just over 100k people, many of whom are probably UI and ISU fans. At least give them some credit. They pull in more than Drake.

I'm sorry but that is just embarrassing. I've paid more in entrance fees to watch a weekend little league baseball tournament than that.

                        ... No really, deuces.

I was thinking of buying a couple of the combo tickets just to help them out and then send them to Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa in Cedar Falls.

We may raise as much revenue Saturday night at the VB101 Dinner as UNI will raise from their combined VB/WBB season ticket sales.

You do what you have to do I guess, but hard to believe that a top 25 UNI Volleyball program would need to be part of that. Maybe their football and men's basketball are doing well enough to carry the financial load.

Hey maybe, how's it going. Didn't you use to go by @WstateU?

I asked Jackie if I could have her number and she said sure, it's 10. I have tried numerous times to call her but I can never get through.

I'm going to bump this thread. We might not get 10,000. We might not get 5000. However we can try to get as many people as possible tomorrow to support our team and thanks Coach Lamb for this great tournament.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
