19/21 Shocker SB at Tulsa

The Shockers conclude their conference schedule with a weekend series at Tulsa. Games are Friday at 5 pm, Saturday at 2 pm, and Sunday at 1 pm. The Shocks have a bye on the final conference weekend.

Tulsa are 20-23 overall and 6-6 in the AAC. They were scheduled to play OU today, but that game has already been cancelled. Same song, second verse. The Golden Hurricane took two games from Memphis, were swept by USF, took one game from UCF, and swept Houston. Hmm. They lost two games to Oklahoma State, the first in extras and the second by run-rule.

In conference play, the Tulsa hitting is led by Haley Morgan (OPS of 1.247) and Imani Edwards (1.158). Rylee Keith (.939) has a team-leading four home runs in AAC play. Maura Moore (ERA of 3.61 and WHIP of 1.40) and Kylee Nash (4.94 and 1.91) have almost all of the innings during conference games.

The Shockers are 40-8 and 13-2. In the AAC, Addison (1.557 and seven homers) and Zoe (1.557 and four homers, but two fewer conference series) lead the Shocker hitting. Sydney (1.175) and Lauren (1.048) also top 1.000. Pitching is Alex (1.40 and 1.05), Lo (2.29 and 1.13), and Alison (3.20 and 1.47).

Seems like Tulsa has had a lot more rain this week than we have had in Wichita. While the light rain we have been getting in Wichita today is expected to move out around 4:00 pm, it appears that Tulsa has showers in the forecast through about midnight.

No official announcement yet, but good chance the Shocks and Golden Hurricane with be doubling up tomorrow or possibly even Sunday depending on the condition of the field tomorrow.

Game One

Lineups have been posted but, as 1972Shocker notes, actually playing the game may be in doubt

With the required tarp on the field, a wet field should not prevent playing two tomorrow..

At any rate, the Shockers are back to their normal lineup - Syd, Addie, Lauren, Zoe, Lolo, Sami, Taylor, Lainee and Krystin with Alex in the circle. Maura Moore is pitching for Tulsa.


We are at least going to start the game, but radar in the Tulsa area is certainly not promising.

Syd singles and steals second after Addie fans. Lauren follows with a walk, but Zoe and Lolo also are out swinging. A one-out single for the Golden Hurricane does not advance. Alex has two strikeouts in the inning. No score after one.

With one out, Taylor reaches on an error, but two outs follow. Alex hits the lead-off hitter in the Tulsa second but retires the next three. No score after two innings.

Addison, Zoe and Lolo striking out against this pitcher was surprising and disappointing. That won't put HCKA and Coach E in a very good mood. I hope that Shocks are properly focused this weekend.

For sure, with the exception of Sydney. Let's see if they make any adjustments to their approach the 2nd time through.

Sydney doubles to leadoff the Shocker third.

Every time there is a delay posting the count for the next batter, I think the rain is coming and the tarp is being put on the field. Like now. But doing a video review has the same effect.

Addison drops down a bunt single, and Syd scores on a throwing error. Addie steals second and moves to third on another throwing error. From there Lauren scores her with a sac fly. Shockers lead 2-0 in the middle of the third.

With one out, three straight doubles by Tulsa tie the score. 2-2 after three.

Hopefully Addie's ankle doesn't tighten up from that roll at 3rd.

Nothing doing in the Shocker fourth. Three flyouts from Alex in the Tulsa fourth. Still 2-2.

Krystin walks to lead off the fifth inning, and the lineup rolls over to the top of the order. A single by Syd moves Krystin to second. Another long delay before the count for Addie. Time for some supper anyway.

Yea that first walk is probably completely because of the rain.

Bringing the tarp out. Looking at the radar my guess is they will have to finish this one up tomorrow. Probably should have stopped after the 4th inning. Shocks may have got a break that they didn't. We'll have to see how that works out whenever the game is resumed.

I wonder if the AAC has some guidelines. Like, "less than two hour delay and we wait it out."
