And the Shockers were clearly pitching around Kiley Noami who is hitting .394 on the season as she walked 4 times. Alex is not going to overpower anybody (only 1 strikeout in this game) and she certainly had her share of high leverage situations as she left 11 Cowgirls stranded on the base paths. So she showed great fortitude and composure in making her way through 8 innings only allowing 1 Cowgirl to cross home plate. Had to be one very happy and very tired (perhaps more mentally than physically) young lady at the end of this one. Alex threw 144 pitches vs 115 pitches by OSU's Lexi Kilfoyl who went the distance as well.

And you can't say OSU wasn't trying to win this game. There is not much to choose between OSU's top 2 pitchers (both seniors). Kelly Maxwell is 13-1 with an ERA of 1.43 and a WHIP of .99. KIlfoyl was 12-1 (now 12-2) with an ERA of 1.65 and a WHIP of .88.

Considering that Maxwell only pitched 1 inning and Kilfoyl did not pitch against the Shocks in the loss in Wichita, I think this win was even more impressive and a better win than the win in Wichita.

"left one up" - the pitch was barely above the knees. She put a good swing on a good pitch - well, maybe the pitch was middle and that is not so good.

Started her with a change just as she did the previous at bat and good hitters (at this level) will punish a center cut change 7+ out of 10 times IF they are looking for it, as Sami stated she was..

A really good piece of hitting but a better show of adjustment from the talented freshman.


Not for nothing, but KB did roll out 3 freshman (including her pitcher that went the distance) and 4 sophomores (albeit redshirt sophomores mostly) to go along with their one junior and 2 senior studs to beat #3 on the road. The future looks pretty solid.

The RPI "compiled and distributed by the NCAA" has the Shocker RPI at 21.

In BB bracketology parlance, the Shockers may be looking at First Four Out. However, if they manage to beat OU, it seems it will be difficult to deny them a host spot no matter their RPI.

WSU is guaranteed to be >.500 versus Top 25 RPI teams .. only 6 other teams in the top 25 can say the same thing.

I get that, but doesn't the SB Committee still lean heavily on RPI? Quien sabe? But probably. Plus NCAA Softball is still driven by "keep the expenses down."

I don't have the sense that the item you pointed out is high on their list of things to consider. And as someone else pointed out, you have the results against Missouri State, etc., to counter that.

BB has moved away from RPI to emphasize some other system I haven't bothered to try to understand. But SB? I doubt it.

7-1 regular season finish and tournament title puts the ladies at 46-9 on Selection Day. That has to at least put them in the short list of discussion, right?

Women’s sports selections seem to be universally and solely driven by the RPI.

im not sure how WSU cracks the top 16 of the RPI unless there are some major meltdowns by a few teams in front of them.

Looked mid-thigh to me. But the big thing is that Sami said she was sitting on the change up and that is what she got. One thing for certain is she did put a good swing on it. Great extension.

I'l go with that. Higher than I remembered but definitely not "up" which I think of at least waist-high.
