Taylor Sedlacek got all of that grand slam. Her and Sami Hood are very talented freshmen.

For the Huskers in the fourth, a two-out single and double is followed by a comebacker to Alison.
The Shocks load the bases on an singles by Lauren and Zoe and a walk to Lolo. Sami hits into a 5-4 DP that scores one run. 9-5 Shocks after four complete.
Nebraska chips away with a homer in the fifth. A single and a walk puts a runner in scoring position, but Alison gets a K. 9-6.
With two outs, Addison walks but is out for leaving early on an attempted steal. 9-6 after five.
Nothing doing in the Husker sixth. Lauren opens the Shocker sixth with a single to third and moves to second on a (throwing?) error by the 3B. After two fly outs, Sami doubles Lauren home. Taylor follows with an infield single to put runners at the corners, but Lainee grounds out. 10-6 and on to the seventh.
Single, another homer by Tokheim, and a single. Ugh! After a force out, a four-pitch walk brings the lead run to the plate. The next hitter lines into a 4-3 DP. Phew!
Nebraska 8-10 Shockers
This weekend, the starting pitching is similar to last year's - you are never sure what you are going to get. Alison survives to get the Win in relief after a really rough start from Alex.
Nine walks helped the offensive cause for the Shockers. Of the nine hits for the Shocks, Lauren had four including a double, and Taylor had two including her grand slam.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 10, 2023, 08:57 PM.

Zoe followed with a hard hit line drive to left that was caught, Lolo hit a hard line drive center that was caught. Sami hit a low liner that just did get to the right of the Husker 2B for a RBI double. Taylor lined a ball down the 3rd base line that the Husker 3B was just able to get enough of her glove on to keep the ball from heading to the left field corner as Sami moved over to 3rd. Lee then hit the ball pretty solidly right at the 1st basis to end the inning. Lulu's lead off infield single was probably the weakest hit ball of the inning.

I think Sami's grand slam was on change up.
A lot hits (21), walks (13), and errors (5) resultin in a lot of runs (18) and runners left on base (16) in this game. Not to mention a lot of hard hit outs and foul balls. Not exactly a well pitched or well played game. BTW, Husker pitchers gave up 9 of those 13 walks.
Sami and Taylor seem to be getting more comfortable at the plate. Taylor almost misplayed a routine fly ball in right but managed to make a shoestring catch after misjudging the ball.
Lainee is struggling big time with RISP. Coming into the game she was hitting .077 with runners in scoring poston and went down further tonight as she left 4 runners on base. Camryn left 3 runners on base.
Addison still just doesn't look like the same hitter to me. Could be that pitchers are just being extra careful with her but she just doesn't seem to be squaring up many balls and when she does make contact the ball does seem to be jumping off her bat like it did the past two years.
It struck me that I don't think I have seen Alex throw many changeups. At least I don't recall any in this game although she wasn't around very long. Not sure if she has that pitch in her arsenal or not.
While the Shocks are now 17-4, I am not sure that record accurately reflects where this team is really at. Nevertheless, this was a nice win over a pretty good Nebraska team.
We should have a much better read on this team after the next 4 games. Nebraska, Missouri State x 2, and Arkansas. Although I am not sure how good Missouri State is this year. Looking forward to seeing how Lauren Howell fares against Nebraska tomorrow and probably against Arkansas on Tuesday. Hopefully, Alison and Alex will be a bit more effective against Missouri State.

Game Two
RV Nebraska at 23 Shockers
Lineup: Syd, Addison, LaurenL, Zoe, Lolo, Sami, Taylor, Lainee, Krystin with LaurenH in the circle. Courtney Wallace is pitching for the Huskers.
A double and a single to start the Husker first. Runners at the corners. A foul sac fly to Taylor moves the runners, scoring one run. An infield single gets a runner to third with the batter advancing to second on the throw. Not sure about that one - a throw to third to catch the lead runner? A foul out to Lainee and a strikeout and the Shocks are out of the jam with no more runs scored. 1-0 as the Shockers bat in the first.
Addison slams a solo homer to tie the game. With two outs, Zoe and Lolo walk, and Sami's infield single scores Zoe. 2-1 Shockers after one complete.
With two outs in the second, Nebraska triples, but a groundout follows. Still 2-1.
With two outs, Sydney is on with a bunt single. She steals second and Addison walks to bring Lauren to the plate. Her infield single loads the bases. Another walk, this time to Zoe, scores a run. Lolo follows with a double that clears the bases. 6-1 after two.
Three batters, three groundouts in the Husker third. Taylor has a leadoff walk for the Shocks. Lainee reaches on a fielder' choice with Taylor safe at second. Krystin moves them over with a sac bunt. Sydney's infield single scores Taylor and move Lainee to third. Addison scores her with a single. Runners at first and second with one out and the score 8-1. Two outs follow. 8-1 after three.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 11, 2023, 04:43 PM.

A leadoff walk in the Nebraska fourth, but the runner does not advance. Lolo leads off the Shocker fourth with a single. Sami's groundout advances the pinch-runner, Siera, but no need - Taylor homers. Lainee singles, but two force outs follow. Shockers 10-1 after four. A runs-ahead win is on the horizon.
An infield single starts the Husker fifth. Strikeout, flyout, flyout. Ball Game.
Nebraska 1-10(5) Shockers
Lo had a nice outing: one run on five hits and a walk over the five innings with two strikeouts. Of the ten hits for the Shockers, Syd, Addison, and Lolo all had two. Addison and Taylor both had two RBI and homer. Lolo had three RBI with her double. Five walks also helped out.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 11, 2023, 05:22 PM.

Game Two
Missouri State at 23 Shockers
Lineup: Same bating order with Alex in the circle. Gracie Johnston, the Augusta HS alum, is pitching for the Bears.
To open the game, a single and a sac bunt are followed by two Ks from Alex. The Shockers open with back-to-back bunt singles by Syd and Addie. Scouting report? Lauren's fly out sends Syd to third. Addie shortly steals second with Zoe at the plate. After Zoe is called out on strikes, Lolo is intentionally walked, loading the bases. Sami lines out to end the inning. No score after one.

A one-out single for the Bears in the second but nothing more. With one out, Lainee walks and Krystin has an infield single, her first hit of the year. Sydney's ground ball results in a DP, apparently aided by some imaginative base running. No score after two.
Walk, infield single, and a walk sandwiched around two outs. Bases loaded for Missouri State. Another walk scores a run. Three fly outs for the Shockers. The Bears lead 1-0 after three.
Alex hits the leadoff batter in the fourth, and Kenzie is in to pitch. We are in for a battle. A sac bunt moves the runner, but the next batters are outs. 1-0 in the middle of the fourth. Pop up, fly out, fly out. Bears 1-0 after four.
By now, Gracie thinks she can actually do this.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 11, 2023, 07:21 PM.
