    WICHITA STATE (9-8, 4-2 American)

    Friday, Oct. 14 (5:00 p.m. CT) at Cincinnati (4-12, 2-4 American)
    Cincinnati, Ohio (Fifth Third Arena)
    Live Stats // Watch

    SCOUTING THE BEARCATS:
    • Cincinnati comes into play on Friday with an overall record of 4-12, including 2-4 in American Athletic Conference action.
    • The Bearcats feature a balanced offensive attack, with three different hitters (Avry Tatum, Carly Glendinning, Abby Walker) currently between 162 and 178 kills on the season.
    • Friday will be a matchup of two of the conference's youngest rosters. The Bearcats lean heavily upon youth in the regular rotation, featuring a freshman and a sophomore at the setter position and each of the four leading hitters as underclassmen.
    • Cincinnati has struggled to slow down opposing attacks this season, allowing opponents to hit .245 for the second-worst mark in the conference and 310th nationally.
    • The Bearcats played a loaded non-conference schedule, highlighted by five straight matches against teams either ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA poll. Cincinnati went 1-4 in those contests, beating Florida State and pushing #10-ranked Pittsburgh to five sets.
    • Head coach Molly Alvey is the third-winningest active coach in The American, with 230 overall wins. Now in her 11th season at Cincinnati, Alvey guided the Bearcats to a stretch of three NCAA tournament appearances in four years from 2016-2019.
Because the Shockers played their travel partner on Wednesday the Shockers and Tulsa only have a single match this weekend playing at Cincinnati. Tulsa plays then Sunday afternoon. The Shocks will then get a break before playing Houston and Tulane next Friday and Sunday.

Hopefully, the Shocks can carryover some good vibes from there final 3 sets in the comeback win over Tulsa.

Shocks lead 15-14 at the media timeout in set 1. Looks like another match that could go either way. I have high school football to attend tonight so I will follow the live stats for the duration.

    Good luck Shocks.

      Set One

      Shockers 25-21 Cincinnati

      Set Two

Shockers lead 5-3 when the Bearkats go on a 7-0 run. 5-10.

The Shockers finally caught up at 24 but could not close the deal.

      Shockers 26-28 Cincinnati

      .133 v .145

Brylee has six kills with Natalie and MorganW having five.

      Set Three

      4-0, 9-12, 13-12. TO Cincinnati.

3-0 run and 21-17. TO Bearkats.

      Shockers 25-20 Cincinnati

      .200 v .198

Brylee and Natalie with nine, MorganW with eight kills.

      Set Four

A rather ugly start (4-8) but at 9-all, Cincinnati takes a TO.

9-10 moves to 15-10 ... and then 15-13. TO Shockers.

      A tie at 20.

23-21 and the Bearkats take their second TO.

Service ace by Lily and block solo by Brylee.

      Shockers 25-21 Cincinnati

      3-1 Shockers

      .208 v .168

      Brylee 16-7-51 for .176
      Natalie 13-5-37 for .216
      MorganW 9-2-29 for .241
      Kayce 6-0-11 for .545

      Serves 12/9 v 7/11

      Blocks 16 v 9

This is a team the Shockers would handle easily with Sophia available. In her absence, they seem to be putting together something that works - works against the lower echelon at least. A nice road win.

12 aces. Lily-5, Katie-3, Annalie-2, and Kayce and Brylee with one each. Cincy had 7.
9 Service errors. Not so good, but Cincy had 11.
A couple of the aces were followed by a service error. Why does it seem like that happens often?

16 Total blocks. 8 solo. Looks like we had a good day blocking.
