Sydney McKinney's resume added another accolade Wednesday after being named one of 25 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

The Norborne, Mo., native ranks second in the nation in hits, fifth in total bases and runs per game and sixth in batting average. Following an All-American campaign in 2021, McKinney has exceeded last year's record-setting numbers. She's hitting .477/.524/.864 with 4 triples, 10 doubles, 11 home runs, 29 RBI, 45 runs and 10 stolen bases.

Different song, but same verse. I will be here for very little, at most, of this one.

          Much of it very off-key.

Lineup: Sydney, Addison, Lauren, Zoe, Neleigh, Jessica 3B, Lolo, Lainee, Wylie with Erin in the circle. Jessica played some third base last year when Ryleigh was hurt, and Krystin's bat is not quite enough right now.

Addie with 2 home runs. I think she has broken her own single season home run record.

Actually, I think that gives Addie 22 home runs which would tie her single season record.

The Shocks finish off the Jayhawks in 4.5 innings by a 9-1 score.

Erin went all 5 innings giving only 2 hits, one a solo home run for KU's only score.

In addition to Addie's 2 home runs Jessica and Neleigh went yard as well.

I think capacity is rated at 1,000 although that may not inlude the new outfield party deck.

But that is a very nice crowd for sure.

The Shockers final run in the bottom of the 4th on the wild pitch was a gift from the home plate umpire. Zoe was not really close to being safe.

To be fair, it appears this was a late change rather than a performance-related decision.

Yes, Steve Strain said that Krystin became ill sometime during the day. Maybe hanging around Sophia Rohling who missed the KU Volleyball scrimmage due to illness.
