Watched the replay of today's match. I can certainly see why WuDrWu was so high on the freshmen middles, Natalie Foster and Lauren McMahon. A lot of potential to work with there. I was pretty impressed with Natalie's serve as well in that 4th set.
Actually I really liked what all our freshmen brought to the table today. The scoreboard sure seems to move the right direction when Morgan Weber is serving.and Mariah had one of her better outings as a Shocker today as well.
Sina is effectively a freshman experience wise at the libero postion and the more I see of her the better I like her at that position.
On top of that our offensive leaders appear to be Brylee Kelley and Nicole Anderson, both only sophomores. Sophia Rohling, also a sophomore, can also be very effective but her game tends to come and go a bit. Brylee kinda of surprises you with her power considering she is a string bean. I guess it's the whipping action of those long slender arms. Nicole can bring the heat as well.
One thing about this team is how many players we have who appear to be effective attacking from the middle of the back row on pipe sets. Brylee, Nicole, Megan and Morgan all seem pretty good at doing that. In the past we usually only had one player with that skill, maybe two if we were lucky. I'm thinking Mariah probably could develop that skill as well although her other back row skils may need some work.
The forseeable future is pretty bright for the Shockers it would seem.
Hopefully, Morgan won't injure a teammate with her celebrations. She gets pretty excited and physical. Sina does as well on occassion.
I liked that the Tulsa announcer did not limit his player of the match to Tulsa payers and, in fact, picked Shockers and gave them a nice post-game interview. Brylee on Thursday and Nicole on Friday. Well done by all. #3 for Tulsa, Maggie Embree, had a really good match for Tulsa today hitting 11-3-21 = .381 plus 2 block solos and 3 block assists. She is particularly good on running slides behind the setter.
