  • 2019 NCAA Volleyball Tournament

The top four National Seeds are

    #1 - Baylor
    #2 - Texas
    #3 - Stanford
    #4 - Wisconsin

UCF is the second seed in the pod of #10 National Seed Florida. They play Florida State.

Cincinnati is the second seed in the pod of #6 Pittsburgh. They play VCU, probably the weakest of the 32 at-large bids. (There are some AQs that are weaker, of course.)

    Other teams of some interest:

Rice (Tabitha) v Oklahoma at #13 Texas A&M
UNI v Missouri at #5 Nebraska
Illinois State (the AQ from the MVC) at #4 Wisconsin

In addition to Texas and Nebraska, other Shocker opponents in the Tournament are #11 Penn State, #14 BYU, Creighton, Cal Poly, VCU, and Howard.

Tulane, Tulsa, and Houston are in the NIVC. SMU qualified but must have declined the invitation.

I think those are decent draws for UCF and for UC. They have a punchers shot at making the Sweet 16.

UCF v Florida State is available on ESPN3 starting at 330pm CT on Thursday.

Also on Thursday on ESPN3, Rice v Oklahoma starts at 430pm CT. I am curious what kind of rotation Tabitha is a part of. Looking at her stats, I think she is playing back row only.

On Friday, Cincinnati v VCU is on ESPN3 starting at 3pm CT.

          First Round

          Thursday

          UCF 3-2 Florida State
          19, (20), (20), 18, 8

          Rice 3-0 Oklahoma
          18, 22, 19
Tabitha is a six-position player, but they do not normally set her while she is in the front row. My guess is that she is only set in scramble situations.

The Owls trailed by 11 in the first set but came back to win it and led 22-18 in the second set before losing in extras.

For all matches, the higher seeded team is listed first.

Florida makes quick work of UCF 21, 18, 17. Great season for the Kaniggets.

                    Second Round

                    #7 Minnesota 3-2 Creighton

That Pitt team was spectacular, and one heck of a win by Cincy.

                            #3 Stanford v Utah - 10pm - ESPNU

All of the "host" matches are on ESPNU while the other match at the site is on ESPN3. The assumption is that the host match will have a full house and will look better on the more widely available channel. The other match? Lots of empty seats.
